Ashland Independent Film Festival A Success

The 14th annual Ashland Independent Film Festival took place over the week end in southern Oregon. AIF gives special focus to small independent features and shorts and always includes Oregon projects.

During the 5 days of screenings and events, 97 films were presented, as well as many workshops, Q-and-A’s and “talk-back” sessions. All of the screenings were well attended at this packed festival.

Of note, “A River Between Us” premiered to a sold-out audience, with the filmmakers, Sen.

Lower Boom Launches!

Lower Boom is a new Portland-based micro-budget film studio, talent incubator, and Film Discovery platform developer, and they are having a launch party this Monday, April 13th, at Dig a Pony (736 SE Grand).

They are going to screen their inaugural project, the short film LETTER B, a fictionalized recreation of the Beatle’s documentary Let It Be, with an all-female cast as the band, and will also highlight their upcoming projects.

His first long-form films of the late 1980s and early 1990s, known as the “Portland Trilogy”, feature rebellious characters on the fringes of mainstream society who yearned to form new communities. The films became instant cult classics, earning Van Sant acknowledgment as one of the most talented and imaginative filmmakers of the indie film renaissance.

iOPIF to Begin Accepting New Applications May 4th

July 1st will mark the beginning of a new fiscal year and a new round of funding for our film incentive programs. As a result, we are preparing to open up the application process for our “local filmmaker” program, commonly referred to as the Indigenous Oregon Production Investment Fund (iOPIF).

We will begin accepting iOPIF applications on May 4th, 2015. Our iOPIF Advisory Committee will evaluate all applications submitted between May 4th and May 8th as having been submitted at the same time.

Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Tours Independent American Filmmakers to US Communities

Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation’s On Screen/In Person program tours independent American filmmakers to communities throughout the mid-Atlantic region to screen their recent work. To further engage audiences, Filmmakers also collaborate with host sites to develop community activities, such as artist talks or workshops.

The Foundation covers all travel costs, reimburses the selected filmmakers for eligible expenses, and provides $200 per day for expenses. Filmmakers also receive a $400 stipend for each engagement on tour.

Filmmakers from across the United States are eligible to submit films for consideration.

The Oregon Art Beat Special, “The Art of Grimm“, is set to air April 30th. The show employs talented and skilled Oregonians that, each week, help bring the show to life. Oregon Art Beat will be meeting the creative team behind this NBC Universal’s hit drama. They will go behind the scenes, “getting to know some of the Oregon artists who design, manufacture and decorate the “look” of this locally shot fantasy series, and that bring the spookiness to life.”

THE PENDLETON REAL WEST FESTIVAL HITS TOWN APRIL 16-18

The Pendleton Real West Festival, a new film event in Eastern Oregon, barrels into town April 16-18 with a lineup of classic Westerns, Native American cinema and cutting edge work by Northwest filmmakers.

The Festival opens Thursday, April 16 with THE WINDING STREAM: THE STORY OF THE CARTERS, THE CASH’S AND THE COURSE OF COUNTRY MUSIC. The film is labor of love from Vancouver, Washington filmmaker Beth Harrington that digs deep into the story of the roots of country music with exceptional archival footage and one of the very last interviews with Johnny Cash.

Big Turnout For PWA’s NW Careers Expo

Oregon Governor, Kate Brown, was a special guest speaker at the PWA (Portland Workforce Alliance) NW Careers Expo 2015 breakfast this year, along with Portland Mayor, Charlie Hayes, Portland Public School Superintendent, Carole Smith and Elemental Technologies CEO, Sam Blackman. Around 130 employers, and over 5,000 high-schoolers from all over the state attended the expo . The students were able to talk directly to employers about career options, ask advice on paths to take toward their dream jobs, try hands-on applications and participate in mock interviews.
