“In honor of the 90th Anniversary of the Hollywood Theatre and the 90th Anniversary of Buster Keaton’s classic film, Buster Keaton’s, “The General”, which was shot in Cottage Grove, OR, the Hollywood Theatre and Oregon Film present a state-wide tour of the film with a new live score composed by renowned Portland film composer Mark Orton. (OPB did a short piece on this project which explores Orton’s thoughts and inspiration behind this project.)

One of the most revered comedies of the silent era, “The General” finds hapless Southern railroad engineer Johnny Gray (Buster Keaton) facing off against Union soldiers during the American Civil War.

Shot In Newport – “Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove” Premiered September 13

The first spinoff of Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch” began airing begin airing this September – “Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove” and premiered to 1.54 million viewers.

The show chronicles 4 families that fish for Dungeness crab in the treacherous, beautiful and rugged Oregon Coast. The show follows Newport locals; Marc Sehlbach; Mikey Retherford, Jr.; Chris Retherford; Gary Ripka, his son, Kenny Ripka; and Jonny Law.

“Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove” changes the format slightly from “Deadliest Catch”, in that the fishermen head home after their day’s work and the families feature prominently in the story line.

But his relatively quiet existence is shattered when he accidentally summons a mythical spirit from his past which storms down from the heavens to enforce an age-old vendetta. Now on the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey (Academy Award winner Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey), and sets out on a thrilling quest to save his family and solve the mystery of his fallen father, the greatest samurai warrior the world has ever known.

Mike Wolfe, Frank Fritz, and their team are excited to return to Oregon! They plan to film episodes of the hit series AMERICAN PICKERS throughout the region this summer.

AMERICAN PICKERS is a documentary series that explores the fascinating world of antique ‘picking’ on History. The hit show follows Mike and Frank, two of the most skilled pickers in the business, as they hunt for America’s most valuable antiques. They are always excited to find sizeable, unique collections and learn the interesting stories behind them.

#OregonMadeShows Exhibit Opens At PDX

#OregonMadeShows Exibit

In collaboration with PDXART, and many other partners (please see list below) a new exhibit is up on Concourse E, at the Portland International Airport this week. The exhibit showcases “vignettes” of artifacts, props and images from just a few of the 400+ feature films & television shows that have utilized Oregon as their production backdrop over the years. From the early silent era films like “Fisherman’s Bride” (shot in Astoria, 1908), to “Grimm”, the popular NBC television series currently shooting in Portland, Oregon has played an important role in production.

Brownsville is celebrating today! “Stand By Me” turns 30 – “The anniversary event is featuring a 5K walk/run as a memorial to Ray Brower, interviews with some of the cast & crew (including the train engineer from the trestle scene), a vintage car cruise in and vintage trailer open house, an authentic sock hop in the historic Brownsville gym, an amateur blueberry pie eating contest, a Geocache Challenge, a replica of the tree house and guided walking tours.

Bruce Dern Stars In Movie Filming in Portland

Oscar and Golden Globe nominee actor Bruce Dern better known for the “Hateful 8”, and “Nebraska”is starring in the Portland produced feature length motion picture “V-Force: New Dawn Of V.I.C.T.O.R.Y.“! Based on the original screenplay by long time Lake Oswego resident D.C. Rahe, directed by Frank E Johnson (“Shannon’s Rainbow”, “Touched By An Angel”, “Palace Guard”), produced by Sean Skelding, Greg Beber, Tyler Benjamin, and D.C. Rahe of the Portland based Revolution Film Group, LLC. Greg Beber wrote the shooting script.

Congrats to “Portlandia” – Three Emmy Nominations

Screen Shot 2016-07-18 at 11.49.16 AM “Portlandia” was nominated again for Outstanding Comedy Sketch Series, and also nominated in the Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series category, with Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein, Jonathan Krisel, Graham Wagner and Karey Dornetto , and for Outstanding Production Design for a Variety, Nonfiction, Reality or Real-competition Series – with production designer Schuyler Telleen and set decorator Katherine Isom.

Also, of note, Oregon-native, Ty Burrell, received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for “Modern Family”.
