KIFF2017 Now Open For Submissions!

With over $1000 in prizes, and two free day pass vouchers to see most of the festival just for submitting, the Klamath Independent Film Festival is truly a filmmaker’s film festival, with a well rounded program showcasing the Klamath region and Oregon as a whole, to bring attention to regional filmmaking, and to expose Southern Oregon to filmmaking throughout the state, with support and attendance from statewide film organizations.

KIFF films are selected by a multi-person jury consisting of filmmakers and regular people to ensure a non-biased, balanced exhibition which celebrates films for film’s sake, in a way even general audiences can appreciate.

#OregonMade Exhibit Closes & Hollywood Theatre Opens MicroCinema At PDX

In partnership with the Port of Portland, the Hollywood Theatre is opening a first-of-its-kind free microcinema at Portland International Airport today’s. The Hollywood Theatre at PDX will feature short films by Oregon filmmakers and host special events and visiting guests.Read more.

HouseSpecial’s ‘Lamentation’ Screening at the New Hollywood Theatre @PDX

Portland animation studio HouseSpecial announces the opening screening of ­their latest short film Lamentation at The Hollywood Theatre @PDX, the new movie theatre in Portland’s airport (C Concourse), beginning on February 23, 2017 and running regularly through the Spring.

The short film is inspired by Portland’s own world-renowned Pink Martini’s rendition of the sorrowful Romanian ballad Până când nu te iubeam (Before I Fell in Love with You), with vocals by Storm Large. Director Kirk Kelley, Founding Partner/Creative Director of HouseSpecial, employed traditional stop-motion animation, in-camera VFX and CG elements combined with high-speed footage captured in practical environments.

Matt McCormick’s “Buzz One Four” – Preserving History

If you missed Oregon filmmaker, Matt McCormick’s new documentary, “Buzz One Four“, (screened at PIFF), stay tuned for release information.   “Buzz One Four” recollects and investigates, in first-hand experience, the “ill-fated flight of a Cold War B-52 bomber loaded with two thermonuclear bombs that crashed 90 miles from Washington DC.” Despite the US Air Force classifying full details of the B-52 crash, McCormick’s perspective, as grandson of the pilot, brings a detailed account of this fascinating, little-known historic event.

Miu Miu Women’s Stories Features Portland, Carmen Lynch – Directed By Chloë Sevigny

Fashion brand Miu Mi, created an ongoing short film series, Women’s Tales, back in 2012, initially in partnership with the Venice Film Festival.  Miu Miu commissions two films a year.  The short films must use Miu Miu’s clothing line as costumes, and only female directors have been invited to participate.  Last year, Chloë Sevigny (a big fan of the fashion line) directed comedienne, Carmen Lynch,  in film no. 13, “Carmen“, and with David Cress (Co-Producer), Kevin Sullivan,(Line Producer) Eric Edwards (DP),  and many of the crew from “Portlandia”, they shot here in Portland.

Saturday Workshop with Mark Orton

Saturday, February 18th the Northwest Film Center is hosting a workshop with local composer Mark Orton (Nebraska, Box Trolls, This American Life) called ‘Working with the Film Composer.’ Participants will get the inside scoop on logistics and process of working with a composer. Plus, Mark will help answer your burning questions about contracts, licensing, and all the fine details in between! Geared toward the director, but great for musicians too.
