POWGirls Announces Three Workshops For Spring And Summer 2019


The Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival is excited to announce the POWGirls workshops for spring and summer of 2019.
The POWGirls Media Education Program launched in March of 2014 and has hosted thirteen successful workshops, producing 19 films and serving over 100 girls and non-binary youth in the Portland metro area.

Our mission is to help girls and non-binary youth, 15-19, realize their power, creativity and voice in media production and encourage them to explore opportunities as future media-makers. We want to encourage participants to be creative, tech-savvy leaders who will help realize gender equity in media industries. WORKING LUNCH Short Film by Shilpa Sunthankar to have Portland Premiere

Portland, Oregon – December 3, 2018 – The much anticipated short film, WORKING LUNCH, by Portland-based Director and Producer, Shilpa Sunthankar, is set to have the Portland Premiere on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at The Whitsell Auditorium. Director Shilpa Sunthankar will be in attendance.The film previously had a successful world premiere at the 19th Annual Filmi: Toronto’s South Asian Film Festival and was selected as part of the 2018 Fall Screening Series by New Filmmakers, New York.

Women in Film Production Grant Accepting Applications!

BendFilm Women-Led Production Grant Deadline Aug 19
BendFilm is now accepting project applications for a women-led production to be filmed in Central Oregon. Female identifying filmmakers in the following counties are eligible to apply: Deschutes, Crook, Jefferson, Wasco, Wheeler, Lake and Klamath.

Winner Announced For #OregonMade Screenwriter’s Residency Award

Playa in the spring.August 6th, 2018: The OregonMade Creative Foundation, Northwest Film Center and Playa Summer Lake announce the winner for the 2nd annual Playa residency award.

The Screenwriter’s Residency program, now in its second year, received over 30 pitches, proposals and outlines from screenwriters, filmmakers and related creators focusing on a new take on an old genre – The Western. Projects needed to be set in the Northwest but not necessarily all in Oregon, while writers needed to be current Oregon residents. New #OregonMade Outdoor Adventure Film Grant – Production Underway

In late 2017, the Oregon Made Creative Foundation (in partnership with Oregon Film,) Travel Oregon, Danner Boots, and the Portland Film Office at Prosper Portland partnered together to bring  funding for a new grant: The Outdoor Adventure Film Grant.

This Grant has enabled our filmmakers, Emilia Quinton and Liz Haan to begin creating a short film that specifically showcases the spirit, passion, and excitement of the outdoor-adventure, or action sports film genres in the state of Oregon and today, we’re excited to share some behind the scenes of what the grantees have been up to! BendFilm’s “Women Filmmaker Production Fund” Is Up And Running

Help BendFilm fund the production of a local, women-led short film to be shot in Central Oregon. They only need $2,500 from this campaign to match a $2,500 grant from the Roundhouse Foundation. “The gender disparity in our industry is embarrassingly low and we need to be the spark that creates change!”

Here’s how the film production process will work:

– With your help, raise $2,500 through July 18th via this Seed&Spark Campaign.

From Oregon to L.A. and back again | BLACKSTAR WARRIOR

I thought one could only make film in Hollywood. Then, I made a short in Portland and it changed my life.

Our stars Mindy Machen and Leonard Roberts in the cockpit of the Blackstar built by production designer Jubal Nance and art director Rob Taylor.

Los Angeles was the place I flew down to for meetings between long walks on beaches that felt hotter than the surface of the sun. Everything about L.A. felt like the polar opposite of Portland, the place where I had lived and worked as a comic book artist for years, first for Dark Horse and then for Marvel & DC, all the while coming up with ideas for film and television, ideas that made me feel excited not just as a creator but as a viewer. Portland Film Community Presents!

June 24th at the Clinton St. Theater 6-9pm will be the first “Portland Film Community” event. We will be showing off the best of the Portland Film Community “Pick of the Month” which we have been posting every month for the last three years.

After that we will be showing a local feature independant film, that is packed full fabulous local talent.
