This week our intrepid Archivist takes us into the heart and soul of Portland indie filmmaking with a recent classic, made on a proverbial shoestring, from prolific filmmaker Jon Garcia. If you don’t know Jon’s work, it’s worth starting with this one and then taking in his “The Falls” trilogy – making a day/night of it (see links below).

Oregon Film’s 50th Anniversary Trailer of #OregonMade Productions Plays Hollywood PDX

Oregon Film turns 50 this year and to celebrate we commissioned filmmaker & editor Josh Lunden and composer Jake Hull to put together a fantastic new trailer that celebrates more than 109 years of film, television, animation, commercial and interactive production here in the state.

Featuring many, many clips from #OregonMade films sourced edited together by Lunden and a live score specially written and recorded by Hull, the trailer takes a 3 minute journey from the earliest of silent films to the latest Oscar Nomination for “Kubo and the Two Strings” – and everything in between. #OregonMade “Leave No Trace” Acquired By Sony Worldwide + Bleecker Street

Debra Granik (“Winter’s Bone”) directed the #OregonMade “Leave No Trace”  premiered at Sundance at the end of last month.  After the rave reviews Sony Pictures Worldwide was quick to acquire international rights, and Bleecker Sreet has aquired North Americn rights. “Leave No Trace,” set in Portland’s Forest Park, tells the tale of  Will and his teenage daughter, Tom, who “have lived off the grid, blissfully undetected by authorities in a vast nature reserve on the edge of Portland. Karen Doesn’t Dream (2018) – Teaser

 

Over the course of the last year, Portland State University Television (PSUTV) has been creating a feature film: Karen Doesn’t Dream.

This psychological drama follows Karen, a 27 year-old porn store employee and Seaside resident. Karen’s job has always been dreary and monotonous, serving the tourists and tenants of Seaside. But that was before she found the sleep tapes… To what extent will Karen feed a growing addiction, and what will this addiction bring out of her?

#OregonMade Netflix Series, “Everything Sucks” Will Premiere Feb 16th, 2018

Everything Sucks” is the latest #OregonMade series to hit TV screens and set to air February 16th.  This newest Netflix series is described as a high school coming-of-age dramedy, set in the late 1990’s in Boring, Oregon.  It shot 10 episodes last year in Oregon City, Boring and Fort Rock.

“Everything Sucks” was created by Ben York Jones, and Michael Mohan, and is produced by Midnight Radio.  The series is described as a, “quirky, funny coming-of-age story that follows two groups of high school misfits, an A/V club and a Drama club who collide in 1996 Oregon. Ventrix™: The North Face + Oregon Locations – A Perfect Campaign Film Match!

As many of you know, The North Face launched a new “Ventrix™” jacket this fall and in collaboration with musician Maggie Rogers, produced an interactive digital outdoor/music themed campaign film, mostly shot here in Oregon.  In case you missed it, here is some back ground on the film – The North Face teamed up with Rogers around the release of her newest track, “Split Stones” for what was called “The Release Project.”  The project simultaneously unveiled the Ventrix™ jacket’s heat release technology and the release of Roger’s new track – the immersive digital experience allowed Roger’s new track to be revealed through movement with your smart phone – the more you moved, the more layer’s of Roger’s song were released until the entire track was revealed.  Continue reading... “Ventrix™: The North Face + Oregon Locations – A Perfect Campaign Film Match!”

#OregonMade in Portland, the new Alan Ball/HBO series, “Here and Now” shared the new teaser trailer yeterday. The series about a, “multi-racial family made up of husband, wife, three adopted children from Somalia, Vietnam and Colombia and one biological child, find their bonds tested when one of the children begins seeing things which the rest cannot,” stars, Holly Hunter, Sosie Bacon, Jerrika Hinton, Raymond Lee, Tim Robbins, Daniel Zovatto, and was directed and written by Alan Ball. Inaugural Outdoor-Adventure Film Grant Opens Tomorrow!

 We are excited to announce, with our partners, our inaugural Outdoor-Adventure Film Grant!
Oregon Film, Travel Oregon, Danner Boots, and the Portland Film Office at Prosper Portland have partnered to bring funding for a new competitive grant, the Outdoor-Adventure Film Grant (OAFG). The OAFG will enable the selected applicant to create a short film that specifically showcases the spirit, passion, and excitement of the outdoor-adventure, or action sports film genres in the state of Oregon. $18,500 in funding as well as equipment, services, and support will be provided.
