This week our intrepid Archivist takes us into the heart and soul of Portland indie filmmaking with a recent classic, made on a proverbial shoestring, from prolific filmmaker Jon Garcia. If you don’t know Jon’s work, it’s worth starting with this one and then taking in his “The Falls” trilogy – making a day/night of it (see links below).
Oregon Film turns 50 this year and to celebrate we commissioned filmmaker & editor Josh Lunden and composer Jake Hull to put together a fantastic new trailer that celebrates more than 109 years of film, television, animation, commercial and interactive production here in the state.
Over the course of the last year, Portland State University Television (PSUTV) has been creating a feature film: Karen Doesn’t Dream.
This psychological drama follows Karen, a 27 year-old porn store employee and Seaside resident. Karen’s job has always been dreary and monotonous, serving the tourists and tenants of Seaside. But that was before she found the sleep tapes… To what extent will Karen feed a growing addiction, and what will this addiction bring out of her?
“Everything Sucks” is the latest #OregonMade series to hit TV screens and set to air February 16th. This newest Netflix series is described as a high school coming-of-age dramedy, set in the late 1990’s in Boring, Oregon. It shot 10 episodes last year in Oregon City, Boring and Fort Rock.
As many of you know, The North Face launched a new “Ventrix™” jacket this fall and in collaboration with musician Maggie Rogers, produced an interactive digital outdoor/music themed campaign film, mostly shot here in Oregon. In case you missed it, here is some back ground on the film – The North Face teamed up with Rogers around the release of her newest track, “Split Stones” for what was called “The Release Project.” The project simultaneously unveiled the Ventrix™ jacket’s heat release technology and the release of Roger’s new track – the immersive digital experience allowed Roger’s new track to be revealed through movement with your smart phone – the more you moved, the more layer’s of Roger’s song were released until the entire track was revealed.
