POWGirls Announces Summer 2018 Workshops

POWGirls offers workshops in video production, cinematography, audio recording, set lighting, digital editing and media literacy for girls and non-binary youth ages 15-19. Our instructors are working media producers who inspire participants to be creative, tech-savvy leaders who will help realize gender equity in the film industry. All films produced during POWGirls workshops are screened at the Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival (POW Film Fest).

“Leave No Trace” Selected For Director’s Fortnight At Cannes


Debra Granik’s #OregonMade “Leave No Trace” is one of 50 films that have been selected to screen during the Director’s Fortnight at the Cannes Film Fetsival this year.  “Leave No Trace”  already premiered at Sundance and received rave reviews.  Sony Pictures Worldwide was quick to acquire international rights, and Bleecker Sreet has aquired North Americn rights. “Leave No Trace,” set in Portland’s Forest Park, tells the tale of  Will and his teenage daughter, Tom, who “have lived off the grid, blissfully undetected by authorities in a vast nature reserve on the edge of Portland. When a film crew arrives at a location it’s like a small army moving in. The industry in the northwest is vibrant and crews now are well versed even with the small market that exists here.

“My Own Private Idaho” 35mm Screening Big Success – #OregonMade50

 

As part of its 50th Anniversary, Oregon Film has teamed up with the Hollywood Theatre to bring several films shot in Oregon back to the big screen – earlier this week was this month’s offering, “My Own Private Idaho.” Gus Van Sant’s Shakespearean tale with River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves follows two friends, Mike and Scott, as they embark on a journey of personal discovery that is mostly set in Portland but takes them to Mike’s hometown in Idaho and finally to Italy in search of Mike’s mother. Karen Doesn’t Dream (2018) – Teaser

 

Over the course of the last year, Portland State University Television (PSUTV) has been creating a feature film: Karen Doesn’t Dream.

This psychological drama follows Karen, a 27 year-old porn store employee and Seaside resident. Karen’s job has always been dreary and monotonous, serving the tourists and tenants of Seaside. But that was before she found the sleep tapes… To what extent will Karen feed a growing addiction, and what will this addiction bring out of her?
