Oregon’s International Bohemian Film Festival Announces ‘Big Sonia’ as Grand Prize Winner

The winning filmmaker, Leah Warshawski and her Oregon-raised animator, Dawn Norton, received a $3,000 grand prize as the Best Film. The winner aims to take the proceeds to launch high school curricula about overcoming the obstacles of our past and becoming stronger.

COTTAGE GROVE, ORE., 18 AUGUST 2018 – “Big Sonia” won the overall $3,000 Grand Prize at this weekend’s inaugural Bohemian Film Festival. Athena’s Gem Theatre – Getting A New Lease Of Life

The community of Athena come together to form a volunteer work party to restore theri town theatre.

The Gem Theatre is located in Athena—a small, community surrounded by wheat fields in the northeast corner of Oregon. The theatre showed its first “moving pictures” in 1909 and closed in 1968. Four decades of decay followed—an all too common tale of theatres lost forever. But, in the case of the Gem, a handful of determined volunteers intervened beginning in 2004. #OregonMade “Leave No Trace” In Theaters June 29th

#OregonMade “Leave No Trace” – is out this week!  Oregon looks fantastic and the film has collected some very positive reviews. Manohla Dargis of the @NewYorkTimes raves it’s “a deeply affecting story about a veteran and his teenage daughter – movingly played by Ben Foster and Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie.” See it in select theaters June 29!  You won’t want to miss this movie, it is getting great reviews, including “100% fresh” on Rotten Tomotoes!

Oregon Film’s 50th Anniversary Celebration Continues…

Kristi Turnquist (Oregonian/Oregon Live) is looking back at our shared film history here in Oregon and will be writing about and “taking note of memorable – and notorious – moments” in coming weeks.  Firstly, Turnquist took a look at 50 actors, all of whom have worked here in the state, and who have “helped turn their Oregon-filmed projects into fan favorites.”

Portland Film Community Presents!

June 24th at the Clinton St. Theater 6-9pm will be the first “Portland Film Community” event. We will be showing off the best of the Portland Film Community “Pick of the Month” which we have been posting every month for the last three years.

After that we will be showing a local feature independant film, that is packed full fabulous local talent.

A New #OregonMade Mural And Film Poster Exhibit For The Portland International Airport

 

The new #OregonMade Film History Mural and Poster Exhibit is located in the Portland International Airport’s south pedestrian tunnel which connects the parking garage to the terminal (underground between baggage claims 3 and 4.) It  provides travelers with over 160 uninterrupted feet ofmural art and posters, representing a small collection of Oregon’s rich film hist ory. By creating  this exhibit, we hope to aptly celebrate the unique and varied locations Oregon has to offer, the projects that have called Oregon home over the years, and the professional production communities that come together to make Oregon so film-friendly. Marty in Transit – Portland Premiere

Hey all! My feature, filmed entirely in Portland, is premiering at The Clinton Street Theater this July. Marty in Transit is an ambitious 90-minute, one-shot thriller about an FBI Agent hunting down a killer who is targeting cab drivers.

It premieres on July 13th and 14th at 8 pm.  After this preview in Portland, we’re headed off to the festival circuit!

#OregonMade Independent Film, “Phoenix, Oregon” – Shooting In Klamath Falls

Directors Gary and Anne Lundgren, (“Black Road”)  have been shooting their latest film,”Phoenix, Oregon” in Klamath Falls this week.

Klamath Falls Independent Film Festival (KIFF)  announced the Lundgren’s new project, as well as updates about the upcoming festival.

“Phoenix, Oregon” centers around the relationship between two small town, long-time friends, who open a bowling alley together.

LOCAL FILMMAKER JOSH HOFFMAN TO SCREEN UNIQUE HORROR FILM AT THE PORTLAND UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL

 

Bloated Cat Productions and Penguin Films bring local filmmaker Josh Hoffman’s latest horror feature film, UNDER THE KNIFE, to the Portland Underground Film Festival on Sunday, May 20th at 9pm.  As the Closing Film for PUFF, UNDER THE KNIFE, will play in the historic Clinton Street Theater and be followed by a Q and A with the director.  Fresh off of its much-talked-about World Premiere in Japan at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival in March, the film will have its North American Premiere at this gem of a festival here in Portland.
