iOPIF to Begin Accepting New Applications May 4th

July 1st will mark the beginning of a new fiscal year and a new round of funding for our film incentive programs. As a result, we are preparing to open up the application process for our “local filmmaker” program, commonly referred to as the Indigenous Oregon Production Investment Fund (iOPIF).

The Festival opens Thursday, April 16 with THE WINDING STREAM: THE STORY OF THE CARTERS, THE CASH’S AND THE COURSE OF COUNTRY MUSIC. The film is labor of love from Vancouver, Washington filmmaker Beth Harrington that digs deep into the story of the roots of country music with exceptional archival footage and one of the very last interviews with Johnny Cash. Marriage and Faith in “Emily”

marriageLocal Portlander and Living Room Theater employee, Ryan Graves, is tackling his first feature film—“Emily.” He’s almost half-way through his crowd funding campaign for post production on Indiegogo. With a goal of 10k, at the time of writing, he is almost at a quarter way there.

Graves added, “we shot the entire film for $20k this past fall. That included paying and feeding everyone. We spent every waking hour on the film.”

The feature follows and expands on his previous short film, “Mr. Right,” which won Graves the Best Short Film Director Award at the 2014 Oregon Independent Film Festival.  Continue reading... “Marriage and Faith in “Emily””

MovieMaker Magazine named Portland in their Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker Top 10 Big Cities.  The magazine noted the city has many independent movie theaters, is homes to animation studios such as Laika, and educational programs within the Portland metro area such NW Film Center, Art Institute and PSU.  Read more here.  Ashland, Oregon was named #1 Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker 2015 in the Top Five Towns category. BIRDS OF NEPTUNE to Premiere at Slamdance!

Portland based feature film to premier at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah,  January 23rd and 26th.

Birds of Neptune, a feature film by Steven Richter which was shot in Portland in 2013 will make its World Premier in Park City, Utah at the Slamdance Film Festival.  With an all local Portland based cast and crew and a soundtrack from primarily PNW bands this is truly a local production.

“Welcome to Unity,” has won both Children’s Jury Prize and Adult Jury Prize for Documentary Feature Film at the 2014 Chicago International Children’s Film Festival.

“Welcome to Unity,” a 90-minute documentary directed by Katharine Mahalic, is a light-hearted, comedic film that shows how crazy things get when seven foreign exchange students, including two from Muslim backgrounds, are brought into a Christian home in the tiny town of Unity, Oregon—population 100. POWGirls Expands Program to Empower Young Filmmakers

POWFest will host POWGirls in 2015, a unique partnership program with MetroEast Community Media, specifically designed for girls ages 15-18. Over the course of four days in January, a group of selected girls will develop, produce, edit and present a film during the Youth Shorts program at the POWFest March 12-15, 2015.

“We want to serve girls who are passionate about creativity, leadership and technology,” said POWFest Education Manager Barb Myers. “We’ll give them video equipment and training to produce their own stories and screen them in front of an audience at POWFest.” Continue reading... “POWGirls Expands Program to Empower Young Filmmakers”
