– The Northwest Film Center asks filmmakers based in the Northwest region to submit their recent work for consideration for the 43rd Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival (NW Fest). The Festival is the longest running Festival in the region and was named one of Moviemaker Magazine’s Top 20 Coolest Festivals in 2013.

The 43rd Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival continues the Film Center’s tradition of bringing moving image artists of the Northwest together to share ideas, discover resources available to them, inspire, be inspired and to showcase their finest work to greater audiences. Birds of Neptune to be released on DVD and VOD March 22nd!

Birds of Neptune, by Steven Richter, will be released on DVD and VOD on Amazon on March 22nd, with distribution by Brinkvision.

The film will be available soon after On Demand on Hulu, Google Play, and others to be announced as well as video stores nation wide.

Birds of Neptune was filmed in Portland, Oregon, with an all local cast and crew.

HouseSpecial Releases New Stop-Motion Short ‘Jailbreak’

From HouseSpecial Director Aaron Sorenson comes the short film Jailbreak, a noir-ish nod to German Expressionism that explores the psychology of imprisonment via stop motion animation. Shot in black and white, the film has an adult twist and dark theatrical feel.

“I was influenced most directly by the silent German Expressionist films such as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and The Golem. But I was also inspired by my love of prison break films such as Escape from Alcatraz, I Was a Prisoner on a Chain Gang and Papillon,” Sorenson said. Analog filmmaking is back at the Northwest Film Center! After an almost five-year hiatus, we’re excited to offer 16mm Cinematography again and this time with local Director of Photography Scott Ballard (DEATH ON A ROCK, THE BLACK SEA, HIDING BLAME). The nine-session course will give participants the opportunity to try out different 16mm film stocks (both black & white and color) and even different cameras (Bolex and Arriflex-S). SOAR, a new documentary featuring local dancers Kiera Brinkley and Uriah Boyd and directed by local filmmaker Susan Hess Logeais, will premiere on Thursday, October 22 at 7:30 pm.  The screening will take place at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland), and will feature a Q&A with the director Susan Hess Logeais as well as co-producers Kiera Brinkley and Uriah Boyd. “Out Of The Darkness” Feature Production Begins

Out Of The Darkness, Day OneOctober 8, 2015 (Portland, Oregon) In the St. Johns neighborhood of Portland, the first day of production was conducted of the locally produced feature length motion picture “Out Of The Darkness.” The four week production will be utilizing local crew and vendors, with local actors and some from outside the State. The cast includes, Adam Davis, John Lewis, Graham Greene, Michael Joiner, Sherry Morris, and Stephanie Landrum.  The film’s director is Shawn Justice, who grew up in North Portland with the film’s producer Sean Skelding.

Portland-Based Film “Birds of Neptune” Has Acquired Distribution Through Brinkvision

 

BONposterplainSteven Richter’s feature film “Birds of Neptune” has been acquired by Brinkvision for US distribution.  The film is scheduled to be released on DVD and VOD in early 2016.

The award winning film “Birds of Neptune” was shot in Portland, Oregon with an all local cast and crew and all local vendors.  It premiered at Slamdance early this year and has since gone on to screen at festivals throughout the US  and was the opening night film at the Portland Film Festival. If you have ever wondered how the casting process works or could use some guidance on better communicating with actors, this one-day workshop with director Scott Ballard, is a great place to start. Over the course of the day, workshop particpants will serve as the director in a mock casting session with professional actors and get inside the art and the technique of assessing and selecting the right talent.
