The Portland area visual effects user group – VFX/PDX – is pulling together their next meeting and intend to wrap up summer with a bang!
The talented and hard working artists & filmmakers from Hinge Digital are headlining this meeting, giving an in depth demo and breakdowns from their most ambitious project yet: a commercial campaign and character design stint for Carrington College.
The studio expanded their core team with animation, design and production talent sourced from the animation mecca of Portland, as well as from the Bay Area and LA. They designed, developed and animated original 3D spokes-characters, “Blue” and “Goldie,”along with “Squirrel,” which are now prominently featured in Carrington’s broadcast, print, online, and social media campaigns, and will soon be available as toys and other collectibles at the college’s book stores.
August 28, 2012— Double Dutch International announced today that it has acquired the worldwide rights to the psychological thriller House of Last Things. The film– written, directed and produced in Portland,Oregon by Michael Bartlett– stars RJ Mitte (Breaking Bad), Lindsey Haun (True Blood) and Blake Berris (Days of our Lives). Cinematographer is Ken Kelsch (Bad Lieutenant, Big Night, Desert Flower). The world premiere festival has yet to be set.

Showing his continued support of Oregon’s film and television industry, Governor John Kitzhaber issued an official Proclamation today declaring August 17, 2012 “ParaNorman Day”. Below is the language of the proclamation.
WHEREAS:Oregon has a longstanding and honorable tradition of encouraging the entertainment arts and the abundantly talented individuals whose creative work delights, informs and educates our citizens; and
WHEREAS:The handcrafted, stop-motion animated 3d movie “ParaNorman” is the second feature film produced by Oregon-basedanimation studio LAIKA; and
WHEREAS:LAIKA is deeply committed to creating an environment that supports and celebrates the art and artistry of animated filmmaking; and
WHEREAS:The lead character Norman is a young boy of ingenuity, empathy, courage and optimism and thus embodies character traits Oregonians hold most dear; and
WHEREAS:“ParaNorman” was produced entirely in Oregon and will be released nationwide by Focus Features on August 17, 2012;
