Short Film, “Another Day” Follows A Young Black Girl’s Experiences Navigating Through Portland’s Predominately White Schools

Another Day” was written and directed by Portland ethnographic filmmaker, Sommer Martin.

In Martin’s own words, “Another Day” is a film following a young Black girl’s experiences navigating through Portland’s predominately white schools. Another Day, in conjunction with Portland public school teachers and administrators, comes with discussion questions as a guide for viewings of the film for students, teachers, religious organizations, and more. Produced by Golden Pride Productions and starring Broadway actor Bobbi MacKenzie.”

The Regional Arts & Culture Council and “countless other donors” made this project possible.

Applications Are Now Being Accepted For The 4th Oregon Made Film Grant – “OAFG21”

Outdoor Adventure Film Grant 2021      “Oregon’s Outdoors Are for Everyone”

Oregon’s open spaces and outdoor pursuits are for all Americans and visitors, yet there is a well-documented inequity in America that is deeply rooted in our shared cultural history, and as a whole, our outdoor spaces are not equally utilized for a multitude of historical, social and cultural reasons. The Outdoor Adventure Film Grant ’21 (OAFG21) aims to help support and amplify stories and storytellers (both in front of and behind the camera) utilizing Oregon’s outdoor spaces as a backdrop.

Hinge Digital Creates Covid-19 Spots

Hinge Digital has been busy creating a number of Covid19-related spots including, “Unite in Gratitude” for Omnicom Health/Pfizer/Merck that was finished in June and launched a few weeks ago.  Mark Axton, Hinge Senior Producer, said, “It is a tribute to front line healthcare workers, combining Live action (stock footage) and our photorealistic CG/VFX Gratitude Flag. Hinge created and animated the CG flag and composited it into the shot.”

“The Rental” Topped Nationwide Weekend Box Office – 2nd #OregonMade Movie To Do So This Year!

Last weekend, the Bandon, #OregonMade feature film, “The Rental” – a horror-thriller directed by Dave Franco (“If Beale Street Could Talk”) – topped the nationwide box office. It is available in select theaters and available to watch on a variety of video on demand platforms that began Friday, July 24.

The film stars Alison Brie (“Mad Men,” “Glow”), and Dan Stevens (“Downton Abbey”), in this horror-thriller – a couple looking to get away for a weekend of fun and relaxation with another couple — Sheila Vand (“A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night”) and Jeremy Allen White (“Shameless”) — but when they retreat to a house seemingly ideal for their vacation…they soon realize maybe it isn’t after all.

#OregonMade, “Trinkets” – Streaming Now On Netflix

The #OregonmadeNetflix series, “Trinkets” Season 2 is now up and streaming on Netflix.

This season, “a grieving teen finds an unexpected connection with two classmates at her new high school after they all land in the same Shoplifters Anonymous group.

“Trinkets” won two Emmys this year for “Outstanding Young Adult Program” and “Outstanding Writing for a Children’s or Young Adult Program” – Writers: Amy Andelson, Stephanie Coggins, Linda Gase, Emily Meyer, Jess Meyer, Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith, Matt Shire.

My First Full Length Documentary On Newberry Volcanic Monument

Hi there!

I have been making short nature documentaries on youtube for a while. I am almost finished with my first full-length documentary. So much work has gone into this one. It will explore the volcanic history of Newberry Volcanic Monument. I plan to do an online premiere on August 28th at 7 pm on YouTube.

One thing I might like to do is submit it to any Oregon documentary film festivals. Would love to chat with anyone about the project.

The Northwest Film Center and Portland Art Museum are creatively collaborating during these socially distanced times to connect with audiences and bring innovative film and new media exhibitions to our community. The Cinema Unbound Drive-In, running August 6–September 27, 2020, welcomes guests to safely gather and experience the power that truly radical and entertaining cinematic storytelling can bring. This will be the first of many ways to change the archaic paradigm of what cinema can—and will—be.

‘The Astrid Experience’, A Film Venture By Salem, OR Native & PSU Alumni – Cal Barnes – Open For Investment Through August 3rd, 2020

The Astrid Experience‘, the upcoming feature film from LA Filmmaker, Salem, OR local, and Portland State Alumni Cal Barnes, is currently open for investment. The production partnered with the Silicon Valley based company, Wefunder, to hold an SEC regulated raise until August 3rd, 2020. Cal is in Oregon for the summer working on finishing the film, and wanted to extend this opportunity directly to the Oregon Film community. The project servers as a great point of entry for any aspiring investors or producers that are seriously interested in the entertainment industry and being a part of a legitimate Hollywood production.
