DIY Spirit Shines with People’s Portlandia

Last year the TV show Portlandia drew attention to some of the qualities that make our city unique.  Maybe for some of you those skits and characters paled in comparison to your own experiences living in Portland.  Alongside the second season of Portlandia, the Hollywood Theatre, in patnership with PSU’s MFA in Art and Social Practice program will host the first ever “People’s Portlandia,” a collection of Portlandia inspired skits made by Portland residents.

Entries will be accepted through www.peoplesportlandia.com beginning in early December.

Local film maker Weston Currie’s film “The Perception of Moving Targets” will screen at the Sundance Film Festival as a part of the New Frontier series.  Here’s a link to more info on the film via the Sundance Website. Recorded Webcast of Annual Meeting Available

This year the University of Oregon’s media team was able to record the annual meeting and now it’s available here.  If you have a Mac you’ll first need to download the flip for Mac Application which can be found here.  One quick note – we ran a 15 minute pre-show of clips prior to the meeting beginning and that is on the front end of the video.  If you’re interested in knowing what the clips are –

#1 – YouTube video of a boy who wrote “An Ode to Fred Armisen” after meeting him on the set of ‘Portlandia”

#2 – “Rid of Me” Trailer

#3 – “Gone” Trailer

#4 – a series of commercials from the animation studio Bent Image Lab

#5 – Leverage Location Video

Elemental Technologies receives award for Innovation in Media Arts

It sounds like a cliché but it’s very true.  Innovation is a key ingredient to future economic growth.  This is as true in the media industry as it is any other.   Over the past few years Oregon has seen several promising media technology companies start up.  One such company is Elemental Technologies, which is headquartered in Portland, Oregon.  Founded in 2006 by CEO Sam Blackman, Chief Technology Officer Jesse Rosenzweig, and Chief Architect Brian Lewis, Elemental has raised over $16 million in financing, which has directly resulted in Elemental’s rapid ascension to become one of the world’s leaders in software designed for video content creation.

Great video from “Leverage’s” Electric Entertainment showing off Oregon

[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/33358272[/vimeo]

At last night’s annual meeting we showed off a collection of videos prior to the meeting.  Many people were making their way into the room and may have missed this fantastic video that our friends from Electric Entertainment created.  We’ve been looking for a fresh way to show off the variety of locations in the area and what better way than to see the locations they way they were shot on “Leverage”?  We can’t wait to see what they will shoot next year when they are actually supposed to be in Portland (as was announced last night).

“Leverage” Readies to Move into a New Stage Space for Season 5

Next year for season 5 of “Leverage,” expect a few changes including a new location for the show’s stages.  The truth is the new space is actually an old one that has been frequently used as a stage for several features in the past (“Extraordinary Measures,” “Twilight,” and “Untraceable”).  Before this season, the space down in Clackamas was 60,000 square feet of open warehouse space which wasn’t ideal for a TV series.  This fall the team at “Leverage” took over the space and are dividing it into three usable production spaces.
