Two Portland Made Films from the Brothers Freeman playing back to back nights at Film Festivals in Oregon.

PORTLAND, Oregon (October 15, 2012) The Feature Films The Weather Outside and Cell Count are screening on two nights at two Oregon film festivals.

First up is The Weather Outside and its World Premiere at this year’s Eugene International Film Festival. The Weather Outside is the story of Max who “finds himself separated from his family on Christmas Eve. He ultimately comes to the conclusion that his wife has left him and taken their children along with her. One year after the disappearance, he begins to discover that he might have one last risky chance to get them back.

When a film or television show comes to town, many restaurants in the vicinity of the production see an immediate increase in business. Acapulco’s Gold, located near the NW Portland set of NBC’s “Grimm,” is no exception. After a long, strenuous day of filming, crew members often head to Acapulco’s Gold to kick back and relax in their friendly, one of a kind atmosphere.

Special FX Artist to Teach Bald Cap Techniques

Colour Box Makeup Studios is hosting a two-day workshop, Nov. 10-11, that will teach film and television artists the most current techniques in the design and application of bald caps and related appliances. Taught by special effects veteran Jason Collins, co-founder of Autonomous FX and a recognized expert in the design and application of bald caps, this two-day course equips artists with:

-Assessing talent’s head structure and existing hair

Oregon Vendor Spotlight: City Liquidators

This week we bring you the final two videos of our Summer Interns’ “Oregon Vendor Spotlight” video series. In today’s video (above), the Interns visit the Portland family owned City Liquidators.

What at first appeared to be a common furniture store has become a unique, one-stop shop for film and television productions looking to buy props and other items in the Portland area. City Liquidators, family owned and operated by the Pelett family, has seen a recent boost in business thanks to the film industry in Oregon.

Eugene, Ore. – (Oct. 8, 2012) – The Cinema Studies Department at the University of Oregon, in conjunction with the Working Filmmaker Series workshop, will present the 1929 Oregon film “Ed’s Co-ed” as the first screening in this year’s Film on Film series.

Showings of the movie are at 7 p.m on Friday, Oct. 12 and Saturday, Oct.

The First Annual CreativeCares Do-Gooders Awards

Design Week Portland kicks off next week coming up Oct 9-13th, to showcase all the diversity and talent within the City of Roses. The densely scheduled exhibition of Portland design talent—visual, film, fashion, furniture, letterpress, architecture, and beyond—has galvanized the creative masses in Portland to fling open their doors, network their asses off, and generally show off.

On the night of opening day, at the Cleaners, there’s a kickoff party that also marks another new first: The 2013 CreativeCares Do-Gooders Awards.

With the consistent production of successful animation and VFX work in Portland, Bent Image Lab and Hive-FX are among the most active and respected animation/VFX companies in the state. They define the talent in Oregon, and set the bar high. With high-profile clientele and big-contract work, both companies have earned impressive international reputations.

Call for film submissions: 2013 OpenLens Festival

(Eugene, Oregon) The 2013 OpenLens Festival seeks submissions by Oregon filmmakers for its ninth annual celebration of the short film genre to be held in Eugene late January 2013. Prizes include: $500 Jury Award, $200 Jury Honorable Mention, and $100 Audience Choice Award. Submissions are limited to 15 minutes with films 10 minutes or less preferred.

Oregon resident filmmakers are encouraged to submit their best work to what has become Eugene’s premier winter film festival hosted by the Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts (DIVA).

Oregon Vendor Spotlight: Cambridge Precision Machining

In this week’s video (above), the Oregon Film Summer Interns visit Cambridge Precision Machining in Tigard Oregon.

Cambridge Precision Machining recently experienced a 20% increase in revenue due to work manufacturing the tiny joints and parts of the armature skeletons for LAIKA’s stop-motion animated feature “ParaNorman.” Based on referrals, they are now getting additional work from as far away as Great Britain.

Center of Gravity Reviews from Raindance

Based on a short story the running time of this film is not going to stretch anyone’s patience – but that doesn’t stop the director from cranking up the tension as the movie unfolds. Contained, collapsed almost to the world of just this relationship, we follow the power struggles, history and attempts to create a future that Renato and Renata negotiate. The work from these actors is, unsurprisingly, fantastic; more is said in a look than many can get across in a monologue.
