EOFF2013: Poised for the new year!

Eastern Oregon Film Festival is coming together. Strong. Friends of the festival are stepping up and becoming members. Businesses, organizations, and industry professionals are helping to create a sustainable ‘force-to-be-reckoned-with’ in beautiful La Grande, Oregon.

Last Year

We felt warm embraces by local and regional audiences, were humbled with the presence of more guest artists than ever, and saw a 30% increase in attendance. EOFF was one of the first festivals to utilize Skype technology for its Q/As. This past edition we held conversations with emerging artists Evan GlodellTristan PattersonSophia Takal, and Dustin Guy Defa.

“Portlandia” Starts Season 3 on January 4 – But Lots of Goodies to See Now

So did you see the winter special of “Portlandia”?  If not you can stil grab it for FREE on iTunes!  Now it’s time to get ready for Season 3 which premieres on January 4.  One cool addition to season 3 is “Kumail Visits Portlandia” which is on the IFC show website.  Make sure you see his visit to the real feminist bookstore!

NW Film Center School of Film: Winter Classes begin in January

Join other artists, creators, communicators, business professionals, and explorers, who want to hone and develop their skills in filmmaking.

Winter classes begin with a $10 Super Saturday Workshops on January 5, which includes Avid for Final Cut Users and Sound Doctor. Core & topic classes begin January 14 and include Art of Film I, Screenwriting Intensive, and Video Production in the Workplace.

Actor, stuntman and Indycar racer Dominic Cicero races to support the American Diabetes Association.

top professional drivers from around the world in a race simulation event at Big Al’s Beaverton this Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 5:00pm. Dominic Cicero was diagnosed with diabetes in 2010, and is racing to support the American Diabetes Association with a $2500 donation prize at stake.

Portland Represents at Art Basel Miami

From December 6th  – 9th, Kimberly Warner’s short film ‘CPR’, will be representing Portland at Art Basel Miami.

CPR, written and directed by Portland’s Kimberly Warner and co-produced by Kimberly and Matt Schulte, will be part of a program called “LIght Assembly”…the goal of Light Assembly is “to combine large-scale video art projection with the citywide canvas of Miami Beach and mainland Miami’s modern architectural marvels and historic landmarks”.

Starting Dec. 6th, and through Dec. 9th, the film will be projected onto the outside of the Art Deco Welcome Building in Miami Beach, 24 hours a day.

Happy Holidays from Limbo Films!

My what a busy year 2012 turned out to be! We produced spots for Mead Notebooks, Ikea, Intel, Kent State University, Cadet Heating, Leatherman Tools, and the Portland Trail Blazers.

Once the creatives at New York agency Ryan Partners gave Limbo Films the green light on a national spot for Five Star/Mead Notebooks our first task was setting the excellent trainers from Boones Animals in Hollywood to work. For 2 weeks prior to our Santa Monica based shoot they trained 4 hero and 4 back-up pooches to do the tricks required by the script and all their work paid off.

ParaNorman Nominated For 8 Annie Awards

It’s gratifying to see ParaNorman (Focus features + Laika) nominated eight times for an Annie Award, including Best Picture.

In Individual Achievement nominations there are seven categories in which ParaNorman talent gets a nod:

Animated Effects; Andrew Nawrot, Joe Gorski, Grant Laker, Character Animation; Travis Knight, Directing; Sam Fell, Chris Butler, Character Design; Heidi Smith, Production Design; Nelson Lowry, Ross Stewart, Pete Oswald Ean McNamara, Trevor Dalmer, Storyboarding; Emmanuela Cozzi and Writing; Chris Butler.

The 40th annual Annie Awards, honoring the best in animation, will take place on Saturday, February 2, 2013.

The NW Film Center & Project Viewfinder: From the Streets to the Screen

 

Without question, those of us creatively engaged in the local film scene are blessed to be able to participate in our growing industry.  As we head into the holiday giving season, the NW Film Center would love to encourage OMPA members to become acquainted with a new program we’re developing to help those without a voice tell their stories through the medium of film.

There is an estimated 1,500-2,000 homeless youth in Portland.  PROJECT VIEWFINDER is our response to this humbling statistic.
