Behind The “Back O’er Oregon” Music Video and Website

Jotham Porzio

By now you may well have read some of the blog posts here about Slater Smith, his band “The Weather Machine” and the journey Smith undertook (in conjunction with Oregon Film and Oregon State Parks) to get the music video and corresponding web site up.  (As a reminder, Smith made an ambitious trip around Oregon visiting 185 Oregon State Parks to bring us his new music video for the single, “Back O’er Oregon”). But what about the folks behind the scenes on this project?

Reese Witherspoon’s “Wild” Shot More Locations In Oregon Than Any Other Project To Date

(All these great Oregon pictures were taken by Reese Witherspoon while on location for “Wild”)

It was gratifying that “Wild” shot in more places in our state than any other feature film to date.  Reese Witherspoon (“Walk The Line, Mud”) traveled the entire length of Oregon from southern and central regions, up to the Gorge and Portland metro while shooting (author), Cheryl Strayed’s, NY Times best-seller novel, “Wild”.  Witherspoon is not only starring in this Fox Searchlight feature, but producing with business partner Bruna Papandrea (“Warm Bodies”, “all Good Things”) under their Pacific Standard banner, and River Road’s, Bill Pohland (“The Tree of Life”, “Twelve Years A Slave”).

SOFaT Announces New Board

Southern Oregon Film and Television (SOFaT), Southern Oregon’s media industry trade association, introduced its new board last night at their 2013 Wrap Celebration held at the SOU Digital Media Center in Ashland. Members of the organization were joined by prominent members of local government and business to celebrate a very successful year in film and media production in the region, which included a very high-profile day of shooting for the Reese Witherspoon film WILD.

SOFaT is entering 2014 with a very strong outlook and a renewed approach to marketing Southern Oregon as a filmmaking destination, and installing a new board is a big part of that plan.

Recap of the Mocap and the Oregon Film End of Year Party

[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/81214871[/vimeo]

Here’s a little video that our friend from Clackamas Community College quickly put together from last night.

Thanks to all who sponsored the event, the great companies who shared their projects with the attendees, and of course all those who attended the event.  I think it was a great way to celebrate 2013 and an even better way to set the tone for a bigger and better 2014 for all!

December 6, 2013 – Portland, Oregon – Oregon Story Board, launched earlier this year by a consortium of research, private, and state groups, today welcomes its inaugural Executive Director Nicholas de Wolff, after a comprehensive national search. Nicholas will be responsible for developing and overseeing the organization’s strategic and operational mission.

“We were incredibly impressed with the quality of candidates that applied for this position,” said Vince Porter, Executive Director of the Oregon Governor’s Office of Film and Television, one of the groups involved with the initiative, “and it became clear early on that Nicholas was at the top of the list.
