Congratulations to Portlander, Todd Haynes, nominated in the category of Best Director for “Carol“. The 76th Golden Globe Award nominees were announced today.  “Carol”, a 1950s romance, landed five nominations (including best picture, drama) altogether.

The Golden Globe Awards will take place January 10th in Los Angeles.

POWGirls started in March 2014 as a weekend workshop for six girls. In 2015, POWFest and MetroEast Community Media partnered to host three filmmaking workshops serving over 35 girls. Watch our past productions here.

“Certain Women” (Kelly Reichardt) To World Premiere At Sundance 2016

Sundance announced today it’s world premiere festival lineup, and the latest Kelly Reichardt film, “Certain Women” (written and directed by Reichardt) is in the mix.  Although Reichardt, and her producer Neil Kopp,  have shot most of their projects in Oregon (“Night Moves“, “Meek’s Cutoff“,”Wendy and Lucy“, “Old Joy“) this film was shot elsewhere, but post was done here in the state.

“Certain Women” is about the lives of three woman who “intersect in small-town America, where each is imperfectly blazing a trail”.

Green Production Gets Some Traction, Pre COP21

European Ecoprod and Film4Climate, joined forces, prior to COP21, to bring their collaboration to producers and crew members, in a one day workshop in Paris.  In addition to offering Best Green Practices, and information on carbon free production to filmmakers, the workshop introduced other tools to help green production, many of them similar to the resources Oregon Film has highlighted for go-green shows here in our state.  As the subject of climate change heats up, more and more production personnel are beginning to look at green options, especially if there is little, or no cost increase.

Winner Announcement!

Ashland local, Sean Nipper, has won the Samsung NX1 Sweepstakes.  Sean got his start in theatre and educational films in Ashland, southern Oregon.  He then moved to the bay area, and opened a small production company.  Nipper recently returned to southern Oregon to raise his family, where he now runs his new company, Reel House Films.

OMPA Welcomes Janice Shokrian As Executive Director

high res photoThe Oregon Media Production Association (OMPA) is proud to announce and welcome Janice Shokrian as the organization’s executive director. Shokrian will be responsible for representing the mission of OMPA to members, potential members, legislative bodies and industry stakeholders.

“After an exhaustive search, Janice stood out as the executive director who could take us forward in a powerful way,” says OMPA president David Cress. “We’re eager
to introduce her to our member and industry stakeholders right away.” Cress noted that the new executive director was already in meetings with key players in Oregon’s film, television and media business.

Oregon Media Production Community Rolls Out Red Carpet, Honors Best Local Performances Of The Year

The annual 2015 Oregon Actors Awards took place at the Portland Center Stage, to a packed house over the week end.  The awards recognized outstanding members of Oregon’s film, video and multimedia industry.  Four awards were given to film, TV and commercial actors, and one for community service.

Also at the event were the graduate actors from the Cast Iron Studio’s Class of 2015 Talent Diversity Initiative that took place in Portland over the last two months.

We are looking for storytellers for the LAUNCH Student Film Competition with short films that are innovative,  creative, original, inspiring, relevant, compelling, entertaining, thought-provoking, funny, and unique.

Do you have a great story to share?  Here’s what you need to know:

  • No entry fee—it’s FREE!
  • Films need to be 5 minutes or under.
  • Genres include animation, claymation, documentary, or narrative—it’s up to you!
  • Five categories: grades K-5, 6-8, 9-12, college undergrads, and PridePrize.

The US Commercial Service Office and their counterparts in the U.S. Embassy in Brazil, are supporting U.S. firms participation in the Rio Content Market (RCM) next March.  They would like to get the word out to the Oregon creative community who has content they may be interested in offering internationally.  The exhibition is the largest event of its kind in Latin America (3500 attendees last year).

OMPA Invites You To The 2015 Oregon Actor Awards!

OMPA invites you to join us on Monday, November 23rd as we celebrate the brightest rising stars in Oregon. The Oregon Actor Awards recognizes on-camera talent whose work has been featured on network television, award-winning feature films, local and national advertising campaigns, short films and web series. The ceremony will be held at the Gerding Theater at the Armory, and includes a red carpet arrival, awards ceremony and hosted reception. The event is also a fundraiser for APP-NW. APP-NW provides valuable services and support to the Oregon acting community.
