iOPIF open for “Indigenous” Projects happening this Summer

Oregon Film is open for applications on a first-come-first-served, rolling basis for its “indigenous” Oregon Production Investment Fund (“iOPIF”) for projects that are planning their productions for the 2017-18 fiscal year (July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018). iOPIF is set up specifically to help indigenously produced projects. Qualifying projects must be produced by an Oregon resident producer or Oregon headquartered company, spend more than $75,000 in the state and employ at least 80% Oregon residents as its crew and speaking cast.

Grove of Trees To Be Planted In North Portland Park- #ThankYouGrimm

Behind the scenes shooting of “Grimm” (NBC Universal)

We are excited to announce that, along with City of Portland, and Friends of Trees, we will be planting a grove of trees in a north Portland park as a fitting way to say #ThankyouGrimm. “Grimm” the #OregonMade, NBC Universal series, shot in many locations around the metro area.  The show ended earlier this year after 6 years and 123 episodes, all based in Oregon.  This remarkable series not only added to Oregon’s marketing perception around the world, it also provided 300 jobs on a year-to-year basis and directly spend almost $300M in the state.

Productions Give Back with Film Shadow Program

As we bid farewell to “Grimm” and welcome both “The Librarians” and “Portlandia” back for their next seasons this coming Spring and Summer – we wanted to share a very special program we were able to put together last summer with the help of the producers of these shows, Open Signal, the City of Portland and NBC/Universal.

Five Students were welcomed on to the sets, stages, locations and into the VFX studios for all of the major TV series shooting in Oregon during July and August of 2016.

Oregon Production Industry Featured At NW Youth Careers Expo

We had another successful year at the NW Youth Careers Expo, with over 6,000 high-schoolers attending the Portland Workforce Alliance run event.  In our booth this year, we had, Koerner Camera Systems, BLT Production Services, Ravenous Studios, and HouseSpecial, each of whom interacted and answered dozens of questions from excited and interested students.  This is an invaluable opportunity for students looking to connect with professionals in their chosen field of work.

via VFX/PDX – A VFX/CG/Post Job Fair – Coming Monday 3/20 @ CENTRL (east)

As Grimm fades to black, it’s hard not to get a little nostalgic considering the massive contribution to our local VFX scene. But this also signals a call to action and the need to pull together quickly, to keep as many of the dozens of Ex-Grimm artists here and gainfully employed as possible.  Local studios, agencies, and other companies operating in the VFX/CG/Post/Game space are on baord.

Next Monday, March 20, from 5-7pm at co-working space CENTRL (Eastside), VFX/PDX presents “A Very Grimm Happy Hour.”

U of O grad, and reTHINKit Founder, Jennifer Cloer, is shooting part one of her docu-series, “Chasing Grace” in Portland this week, and took some time out from filming to talk to the Portland Business Journal  .

The Chasing Grace Project, is a six-part documentary series “that brings together a community that is creating change for women in tech – – right now” and is an initiative to give a voice to women in tech and to keep the conversation going as a way to create change.

New Proposed Rules for Regional Incentive Program (rOPIF) and Revisions to OPIF Posted

New proposed rules for the rOPIF program passed during the 2016 session have been posted to Oregon Film’s website. The comment period will last until noon on April 30, 2017. Comments should be sent to [email protected] with the subject line “New Rules Comment.”

Applications for the rOPIF program will open on May 1, 2017, but productions wishing to take advantage of rOPIF can only apply for production days taking place in regional locations occurring on or after July 1, 2017.

Ashland Independent Film Festival to Announce Full Line-up at Festival Preview Night and Offers a Sneak Peek at 10 Highlights

The Ashland Independent Film Festival will announce its 2017 film and event lineup at their Festival Preview Night on Tuesday, March 14 at 7 p.m. at the SOU Music Recital Hall in Ashland. This is the first chance to see clips from festival films, pick up the Pocket Guide, and get insider information on special guests and new events for AIFF2017. This event is FREE, and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The five-day, five-night festival will run April 6-10 in several venues across Ashland.

The Oregon Film Museum’s TNT (Thursday Night Talks) lecture series continues March 16th, 2017 with a presentation by Propmaster Tim Oakley of Portland-based Oakley Design Studios. Tim designs and creates props for feature films, television shows and commercial shoots. His work has appeared in over 100 motion pictures, including Dark Knight Rises, Jurassic World, Indiana Jones 4, and all of the Star Trek franchises. He also works on Oregon made television series The Librarians and Grimm, and locally-shot Green Room.
