The NW Animation Fest is coming up

The NW Animation Fest is a variety show that celebrates the best new work from independent animators around the globe. This is the festival’s biggest year yet. “C.O.G”, written and directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez and based on a David Sedaris autobiographical essay, was filmed in Hood River and the Portland Metro Area. “C.O.G” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and has just gained distribution through Screen Media and Focus Features’ alt-distribution label Focus World. They have plans to release the movie in theaters later this year.

Director Guillermo Arriaga is returning to Oregon, where he filmed “The Burning Plain” in Portland and Coos Bay in 2008. The film featured Academy Award-winner Jennifer Lawrence in her first starring role, alongside Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger. At the Bijou Cinemas and Northwest Film Center, Arriaga will present The Burning Plain and, only at the Bijou, the film he wrote and Tommy Lee Jones directed, The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005). While in Oregon, Arriaga will also give the Bartolomé de las Casas Lecture in Latin American Studies at the UO and a public talk at the Oak Hill School. When Richard Herskowitz started Cinema Pacific he conciously decided not to call it a film festival so that a wide array of events could be included. This year’s version of Cinema Pacific is taking that concept to a new level.

Two local agencies team up with Travel Oregon to produce a new video promoting tourism. Dave Weich of Sheepscot Creative and Kate Sokoloff of Sokoloff Creative, in conjunction with the Travel Oregon team, offered their creative services to this project that focuses on Governor John Kitzhaber’s own personal memories of growing up in the state. Amidst stunning footage of Oregon’s scenic landscape are photos from the Governor’s personal photo album. These images of him as a young boy fishing and camping illustrate his connection with Oregon’s rural pristine places and the benefits of travel. Program to embrace growing digital storytelling cluster, accelerate new projects
PORTLAND, Ore — DATE — The Oregon Governor’s Office of Film and Television and PIE (Portland Incubator Experiment) have partnered to launch Oregon Story Board, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the education, support, and promotion of digital media production throughout Oregon.
