The next installment of our #OregonMade Film Series at the Hollywood Theatre is “Sometimes a Great Notion” on August 23. Paul Newman stars in and directs what some call the quintessential Oregon film based on the novel by Ken Kesey. Shot on the Siletz River and in and around Lincoln City and Toledo, the Stamper family, headed by Henry Fonda, Never Gives an Inch right on up to the final image of the senior Stamper’s hand giving a single finger salute as the last timber raft heads out to sea. Outside the Frame Creates More Opportunities – Become a Mentor Today!

For the past 4 years, Outside The Frame has hosted and led training sessions for the Oregon Media Pathways Program, collaborative effort led by the Oregon Governors Office of Film & Video (Oregon Film) in collaboration with the Oregon Media Producers Association (OMPA), IATSE Local 488,  OTF and other stakeholders. The central goal has been to  train and place folks from underrepresented communities in paid positions as Production Assistants (PAs) on professional film sets. Since 2019, OTF has trained 60+ people through the Pathways PA Training program, resulting in 46 different people placed as paid PA interns on 32 different episodic streaming shows, motion pictures and commercials produced by Paramount, Hulu, Warner Brothers, and Amazon, just to name a few. POWGirls Presents An Introduction to Filmmaking Workshop

POWGirls will be offering an Intro. to Filmmaking workshop as part of their summer programming.
POWGirls (a program of the Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival) offers workshops in video production, cinematography, audio recording, set lighting, digital editing and media literacy for girls and non-binary youth ages 15-19. Our instructors are working media producers who inspire girls to be creative, tech-savvy leaders who will help realize gender equity in the film industry. POWGirls supports all girls in their media education regardless of race, ethnicity, class, religion, ability, sexuality or gender expression.

PAM CUT Sustainability Labs – Application Deadline is July 1

Applications are now open for PAM CUT‘s Sustainability Labs. U.S. based multidisciplinary creators, media artists, directors, and producers looking to change their personal model of creative, financial, and business sustainability are invited to apply.

Application deadline is July 1, 2023.

Preference will be given to mid-career artists, storytellers, and creative producers who have completed at least one significant project in at least two disciplines or mediums. Alternatively, applicants who have completed work on a project and are now in significant development in a new medium, form, or format will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Top Secret Club – Script Reading Event Returns June 29

Top Secret Club is a bimonthly script development and networking event for the film and theatre community that hosts table reads in front of a live audience with local actors, screenwriters, and playwrights. The table reads are followed by a facilitated feedback session, and a community social hour.

6 PM – 9 PM at 1316 SE 12th Avenue. Free to attend!

Featuring work by Linda Alper and Aaron Isaac Vasquez.

“Tell Your Story” Grant Winners Announed

The winners of this year’s “Tell Your Story” grants are Karina Lomelin Ripper and Luann Algoso & Christian Henry. These filmmakers will receive a non-project-specific grant of $15,000 and at least six months of direct support from the Oregon Film Office as well as shared office space at Desert Island Studios. The grant was designed to support a non-project-specific, virtual residency, allowing filmmakers to develop, explore, and shoot the stories they want to tell in any film format they choose. “What does Oregon Film do?”  Do you know?

We’re the state film office. Or, the State Film Commission. Or, Oregon Film as some call it. And, as such, we are tasked with growing the film, television, commercial, interactive, and media industry here in Oregon. We bring attention to, elevate, and support the industry in many different ways.

Project support. We think that Customer Service means a great deal. Therefore, we make sure we are responsive, it doesn’t matter if a project is big or small, from out-of-state, or coming from one of our local producers or companies. Outdoor Movies in Oregon State Parks Returns!


The Hollywood Theatre and Oregon State Parks join forces once again for Outdoor Movies in Oregon State Parks! Pack a picnic and bring your friends to a summer season of vintage blockbusters, paranormal thrillers, and cult favorites, screening under the stars at some of Oregon’s most beautiful parks.

Outdoor Movies in Oregon State Parks are free to attend and no ticket is required. Screenings begin at dusk. Free day-use parking after 7 p.m.

International Youth Silent Film Festival – Tickets Now on Sale

Experience modern silent movies created by our next generation of filmmakers from the Pacific Northwest, as they compete for top honors.

Sunday, May 28 at 2:30PM at the Hollywood Theatre.

Awards will also be presented, with a top prize of $1,000. Movies will be accompanied by live theatre pipe organ played by Nathan Avakian.  Films feature live action, as well as animation, stop motion and CGI, so there will be something for everyone!

Guillermo del Toro: Crafting Pinocchio – Coming To The Portland Art Museum June 10th

The Portland Art Museum will be hosting the Guillermo del Toro: Crafting Pinocchio exhibit this summer. The exhibit is “a celebration and exploration of the inventiveness, passion and artistic cooperation that goes into making a cinematic vision come to life.” The exhibit started at MoMA in New York and is now opening at the Portland Art Museum on June 10th and will run through September 17th, 2023.
