“Seven Wonders” Campaign + Film Tourism – Has Affected Increased Visitors To Oregon

The love for the beauty and magnificence of Oregon as a destination continues – this week the New York Times travel section reported that Travel Oregon’s “Seven Wonders” campaign (Wieden + Kennedy), coupled with the “Wild” movie locations tie-in, increased Oregon’s tourism “by nearly 10 percent growth in statewide lodging revenue in 2014 over 2013, an increase of more than 120,000 social media followers, and a record number of unique visitors to its website”.*  Travel Oregon partnered with Oregon Film on three distinct aspects of the “Wild” journey;

  1. the Los Angeles  premiere,
  2. the five screenings around the state, and
  3. the Fox Searchlight prize promotion (that promoted the movie’s release, as well as put a nationwide, and international spotlight on the state).

Senator Ron Wyden prepared a statement for the Congressional Record to mark the 30th anniversary of “The Goonies”, shot in Astoria, Oregon. Sen. Wyden noted the growth of the Oregon film industry and the “good-paying jobs and tourism that in turn support local businesses and economic development across the State”. Filmmaker, documentarian, and music video director Lance Bangs will take part in the Hollywood Theatre’s Everything Is Festival: Portland, hosting LANCE BANGS PRESENTS on Sunday, May 31 at 9:30pm.

Portland Feature Film “Birds of Neptune” Wins Big at the Arizona International Film Festival!

Portland production Birds of Neptune takes home Best Dramatic Feature at the Arizona International Film Festival, and the Special Jury Award for Best Performance to Britt Harris!   Birds of Neptune written and directed by Steven Richter, produced by Lara Cuddy, stars Britt Harris, Molly Elizabeth Parker and Kurt Conroyd.

Birds of Neptune will screen next at the Mammoth Lakes Film Festival on May 29th.  Director Steven Richter and actors Britt Harris and Molly Elizabeth Parker will be in attendance for a Q&A after the screening. CW’s TV Comedy, “Significant Mother” to Shoot Series in Portland

Josh ZuckermanAlloy Entertainment, and CW‘s “Significant Mother“, is set to shoot in the Portland area late spring and will air in August.  The series shot three digital episodes for The CW Seed last year, and now has upped the series to TV.  The show will star Josh Zuckerman (“Desperate Housewives”, “90210”), Krista Allen (“What About Brian”), Jonathan Silverman (“Weekend at Bernie’s”), Emma Fitzpatrick (“The Social Network”) and Jay Ali (“The Fosters”). iOPIF to Begin Accepting New Applications May 4th

July 1st will mark the beginning of a new fiscal year and a new round of funding for our film incentive programs. As a result, we are preparing to open up the application process for our “local filmmaker” program, commonly referred to as the Indigenous Oregon Production Investment Fund (iOPIF).
