“In honor of the 90th Anniversary of the Hollywood Theatre and the 90th Anniversary of Buster Keaton’s classic film, Buster Keaton’s, “The General”, which was shot in Cottage Grove, OR, the Hollywood Theatre and Oregon Film present a state-wide tour of the film with a new live score composed by renowned Portland film composer Mark Orton. (OPB did a short piece on this project which explores Orton’s thoughts and inspiration behind this project.)

#OregonMadeShows Exibit
In collaboration with PDXART, and many other partners (please see list below) a new exhibit is up on Concourse E, at the Portland International Airport this week. The exhibit showcases “vignettes” of artifacts, props and images from just a few of the 400+ feature films & television shows that have utilized Oregon as their production backdrop over the years. From the early silent era films like “Fisherman’s Bride” (shot in Astoria, 1908), to “Grimm”, the popular NBC television series currently shooting in Portland, Oregon has played an important role in production. Brownsville is celebrating today! “Stand By Me” turns 30 – “The anniversary event is featuring a 5K walk/run as a memorial to Ray Brower, interviews with some of the cast & crew (including the train engineer from the trestle scene), a vintage car cruise in and vintage trailer open house, an authentic sock hop in the historic Brownsville gym, an amateur blueberry pie eating contest, a Geocache Challenge, a replica of the tree house and guided walking tours. The small town of Brownsville, Oregon celebrated the classic movie Stand By Me on Saturday July 23, 2016. In 1985 Brownsville turned into a town named Castle Rock and was teaming with film crews, actors and all the excitement of the movie making process. Today, the movie is still regarded as a favorite and is listed as one of the top 250 American films of all time. The Falls:Covenant of Grace, the third installment of The Falls series hopes to film in Portland this summer. It is a trilogy written and directed by Jon Garcia about two gay Mormon men and the struggles of LGBT individuals of faith. There are more than 185 State Parks and waysides in Oregon. I’ve been to them all… or at least everything you can find on a public map. It took me four months of travel, but with the help of Oregon Film and the Oregon State Parks system, I made a music video featuring footage of myself performing the same song in every wooded nook and cranny in Oregon.
