MovieMaker Magazine Names Portland in Top Ten Big Cities to Live and Work as a Moviemaker 2015

MovieMaker Magazine named Portland in their Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker Top 10 Big Cities.  The magazine noted the city has many independent movie theaters, is homes to animation studios such as Laika, and educational programs within the Portland metro area such NW Film Center, Art Institute and PSU.  Read more here.  Ashland, Oregon was named #1 Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker 2015 in the Top Five Towns category. BIRDS OF NEPTUNE to Premiere at Slamdance!

Portland based feature film to premier at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah,  January 23rd and 26th.

Birds of Neptune, a feature film by Steven Richter which was shot in Portland in 2013 will make its World Premier in Park City, Utah at the Slamdance Film Festival.  With an all local Portland based cast and crew and a soundtrack from primarily PNW bands this is truly a local production.

“Wild” In Oregon!

It seemed fitting that Fox Searchlight’sWild“, special-screened in four Oregon cities the second week in December. The screenings kicked off with the Oregon premiere of the movie at Cinema 21 , Portland.  Reese Witherspoon (nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress), Laura Dern, Jean-Marc Vallée , and of course local Portlander and inspiration, Cheryl Strayed, were on hand to introduce the movie to a packed house, as well as an introduction from Tim Williams, Oregon Film’s Executive Director. MovieMaker Magazine’s Fall 2014 issue hit newsstands around the U.S. and Canada this week. It presents MovieMaker’s annual list of the 25 best cinematic celebrations in the world, as selected by people like critic Elvis Mitchell, Emily Best of film site Seed & Spark, Thom Powers from the Toronto International Film Festival and the Sundance Doc Club, Dennis Dembia of Rogers & Cowan,  Josephine Decker from Filmmaker magazine, and Karla Rodrigeuz with Alamo Draft House.

“Welcome to Unity,” has won both Children’s Jury Prize and Adult Jury Prize for Documentary Feature Film at the 2014 Chicago International Children’s Film Festival.

“Welcome to Unity,” a 90-minute documentary directed by Katharine Mahalic, is a light-hearted, comedic film that shows how crazy things get when seven foreign exchange students, including two from Muslim backgrounds, are brought into a Christian home in the tiny town of Unity, Oregon—population 100. WILD Contest Has Oregon Covered

Fox Searchlight unveiled the #LifeisWILD contest this week as a headliner in promoting Reese Witherspoon‘s WILD.  Oregon Film was approached by Fox Searchlight to help put this contest together as an interactive and creative way to bring attention to the movie, and in so doing, the Pacific Crest Trail, and Oregon simultaneously.  Oregon Film collaborated with Travel Oregon to pull together a fantastic Grand Prize package of a week long trip to Oregon for the winner and a friend.  Continue reading... “WILD Contest Has Oregon Covered”

The Oregon Actors Awards celebrate Oregon’s deep pool of professional on-camera actors, and the community that supports them in their business and their craft. Thanks to funding by presenting partner Koerner Camera Systems and support from the SAG-AFTRA actors union, the Oregon Governor’s Office of Film and Television, the Portland Area Theater Alliance, the Alliance of Professional Performers-Northwest and OMPA, event costs were fully supported so that all of the ticket sales were donated to PATA’s Valentine Fund, which provides financial assistance to members of the Portland-area theatre community in times of medical or personal emergency. Witherspoon and Papandrea Push For More Female Dramas Like “Wild”

Reese Witherspoon (and her producing partner, Bruna Papandrea) have, of course, been getting all kinds of press attention for WILD , and now, more recently, their quest to find quality, female driven dramas.  Their production company, Pacific Standard, has only been around for two years, but already they have three projects (WILD, GONE GIRL, DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS) under their belt.
