BendFilm Late Submissions Deadline – May 23rd

A near-constant fixture of MovieMaker magazine’s 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee: https://goo.gl/yXmzNA, BendFilm celebrates independent films and the risky, passionate, tough and talented people who make them. This year’s festival runs from Thursday, Oct. 12 – Sunday, Oct. 15, with most venues located in Bend’s historic downtown and the nearby Old Mill District.

24 Hour Comic – Feature Documentary

8 Artists confined to a comic book store, partake in Scott McCloud’s 24 Hour Comic Challenge. Each attempting to write, draw, and complete a 24 page comic, in 24 hours.

With the smell of coffee and doughnuts lingering over a table filled with pencil shavings, director Milan Erceg delves into the personal lives of each of the participating artist to examine how and why they got into an industry that rarely rewards their passion with fame or money.

The film features Scott McCloud, cartoonist and author of Understanding Comics, and local standouts Paul Guinan creator of Boilerplate, David Chelsea, acclaimed graphic novelist, Mike Richardson, founder of Dark Horse Comics and many others. QDoc Film Festival Returns May 18-21 at the Hollywood Theatre! 4 Days, 12 Films, 1 Special Weekend

Going on its 11th year, QDoc is the only film festival in the United States (and one of only two in the world) devoted exclusively to LGBTQ documentaries. From historical films to personal stories; artist biographies to experimental works; topical films to controversial works, QDoc has presented award-winning films, fresh from top-tier festivals, for more than a decade.

The four-day festival kicks of Thursday, May 18 at the historic Hollywood Theatre and continues through May 21 with 11 additional films, broadly exploring LGBTQ history, culture and politics. Ashland Independent Film Festival Announces Juried and Audience Award Winners

The Ashland Independent Film Festival (AIFF) announced the highly anticipated juried and audience award-winning films for work screened at the 16th annual festival, April 6-10, 2017. “I’m particularly pleased that the audience chose different films to award than the juries,” said festival director Richard Herskowitz. “Since many of our films this year deserved special recognition, I’m glad we were able to hand out local artisan Dennis DeBey’s beautiful statuette to so many deserving artists.”

Timberline Lodge Hosting New “Experiential” Horror Film Fest!

screen-shot-2016-11-02-at-9-54-59-amThe Overlook Film Festival is about to begin (April 27-30) at Timberline Lodge, on the flanks of Mount Hood.  The lodge exterior stood in for the fictitious “Overlook Hotel” in Kubrick’s ’80’s classic horror movie, “The Shining“, and has drawn fans from all over the world to see the impressive pre-WWII 1930’s building.

The festival will be “presenting superior film programming with an expanded focus on experiential events, the festival showcases exciting new work in new and classic independent horror cinema alongside the latest in interactive and live shows for a fully immersive weekend.
