With very little fanfare the cast and crew of the NBC series “Grimm” spent their weekend working two shifts at two different locations of the Oregon Food Bank packaging 24,139 pounds of food resulting in 15,259 meals for Oregonians in need. The effort was largely organized by local film workers Bruce Lawson and Dawnn Pavlonnis, but in total there were over 30 volunteers representing members of IATSE, SAG/AFTRA, DGA, and the Teamsters looking to give a little back to the community. I’m professional actor and fight coordinator Kendall Wells.
I’m offering classes in Portland on fight performance for film and television. I’ve been teaching for about nine years, but only recently decided to hold a regular class (twice per month). I have held a couple workshops in conjunction with Cast Iron Studios in the past, including one taught by my mentor, fight master Anthony De Longis. The workshops were a huge success, and all the students have expressed great interest in training more.Continue reading... “Film Fighting Classes in Portland”

Oregon Film Veterans Katherine Wilson and Philip Krysl (with over 40 years as Oregon filmmakers and 50 Oregon Film Credits between them) mentored 10 students this last year from the U of O into the industry by helping the students produce the couples’ screenplay “Animal House of Blues”. The collaboration with the students began small as a short for credit in a NW Film Class, which then resulted in final projects and Career Center and Journalism Internships. Not wanting to stop there, Student Director/ Cinematographer/ Editor Jay Richardson was supported by the whole group of students from several classes over the summer to create a feature length Documentary and entered the Eugene International Film Festival August 17th, the day summer school ended. Today we bring your the final video (above) in our Summer Interns’ “Oregon Vendor Spotlight” video series. Today’s video features local restaurant, Acapulco’s Gold.
When a film or television show comes to town, many restaurants in the vicinity of the production see an immediate increase in business. Acapulco’s Gold, located near the NW Portland set of NBC’s “Grimm,” is no exception. After a long, strenuous day of filming, crew members often head to Acapulco’s Gold to kick back and relax in their friendly, one of a kind atmosphere.
