Lindstrom’s “Mothering Inside” – Second Film in Oregon Film[Makers] Screening Series

Following on from our successful screening of “Wild” at the Salem Cinema last December, we are pleased to be starting a new series of free screenings in Salem made by, or featuring, Oregon filmmakers and subjects which we are calling Oregon Film[Makers].

OMPA Appoints Nathaniel Applefield as Interim Executive Director

The Oregon Media Production Association (OMPA) has appointed Nathaniel Applefield as the organization’s Interim Executive Director following the departure of Tom McFadden after seven years of service to the organization. Applefield served prior as Executive Director for the Portland Local of SAG-AFTRA, and has over ten years of experience in Oregon politics. Clackamas Community College Partners with Portland Film Festival

andyPortland Film Festival (September 1st – 7th, 2015) is partnering with Clackamas Community College’s (CCC) Digital Media Communications (DMC) program for the 2015 festival season.

Led by director Andy Mingo, the DMC program has the led the state in film production experience in Oregon for its students. It is the only higher education program with state-of-the-art tools including Oculus Rift Virtual Reality devices and digital cinema cameras, like those used in locally produced, “Wild,” with Reese Witherspoon. “Wild” Immersed In Virtual-Reality

“Wild” took a foray in to the world of immersive media at the New Frontier Installations at Sundance last week with “Wild – The Experience” from Fox Searchlight and the Fox Innovation Lab.  Viewers were able to join Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern on the Pacific Crest Trail and be enveloped in a moment of virtual-reality between the two actresses.  Montreal filmmakers, Paul Raphaël and Félix Lajeunesse (The Felix and Paul Studio) directed the three minute sequence as one their first examples of cinematic virtual-reality in 3D. Oregon Film Office and Local Scouts Get LMGA Award Nominations

The Second Annual Location Managers Guild of America (LMGA) Awards announced the finalists this week.  The Oregon Governor’s Office of Film & Television, as well as local scouts, Crofton Diack, Mike Floyd, Alissa Desler and Lori Allen have been nominated for consideration for  Location Managers Guild of America  Awards.  Oregon Film for the “exemplary work on WILD“, Diack and Floyd for Outstanding Locations in a Single Commercial (Nissan Altima, “Migration” – see below)[youtube]http://youtu.be/nlUDk2qkV5I[/youtube] and Desler and Allen for Outstanding Locations in a Commercial Campaign  (Subaru Outback). BIRDS OF NEPTUNE to Premiere at Slamdance!

Portland based feature film to premier at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah,  January 23rd and 26th.

Birds of Neptune, a feature film by Steven Richter which was shot in Portland in 2013 will make its World Premier in Park City, Utah at the Slamdance Film Festival.  With an all local Portland based cast and crew and a soundtrack from primarily PNW bands this is truly a local production.

The Oregon Film Annual Governor’s Awards

There was a big turnout at the Eastside Exchange Ballroom last night for the Oregon Film’s Annual Governor’s Awards. Kicking off the event was Gordon Sondland (Oregon Film Board Chair, founder and chairman of Provenance Hotels, and co-founder of the merchant bank Aspen Capital) who introduced the evening and then actor Russell Hornsby (“Grimm“), who then declared himself now a Portland local! TNT and Electrics’, “The Librarians” Opened Strong

TNT’s new drama series, “The Librarians”, (a follow up to the movie trilogy, “The Librarian”) delivered 5.4 million viewers for the two hour premiere in December. TNT and Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment are no strangers to Oregon, having shot all but one season of “Leverage” here.  Many locations in the Portland metro area, Clackamas county and even the Captiol building in Salem were used in season one.

“Wild” In Oregon!

It seemed fitting that Fox Searchlight’sWild“, special-screened in four Oregon cities the second week in December. The screenings kicked off with the Oregon premiere of the movie at Cinema 21 , Portland.  Reese Witherspoon (nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress), Laura Dern, Jean-Marc Vallée , and of course local Portlander and inspiration, Cheryl Strayed, were on hand to introduce the movie to a packed house, as well as an introduction from Tim Williams, Oregon Film’s Executive Director.
