LAIKA’s fifth film, “Missing Link,” will be directed by Chris Butler (“ParaNorman”) and cast will include, Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana, Zach Galifianakis, Stephen Fry and Emma Thompson. It is set to open in the spring of 2019.
LAIKA describes the latest project as a “globetrotting comedy-adventure bursting with humor, heart, and a profound message of acceptance and finding one’s place.” Read more here.
Gus Van Sant’s new movie, “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot” is set to come out July 13th. The film is based on the life of Oregonian cartoonist, John Callahan, and is played by Joaquin Phoenix, also starring are Jonah Hill, Rooney Mara and Jack Black. Debra Granik’s #OregonMade “Leave No Trace” is one of 50 films that have been selected to screen during the Director’s Fortnight at the Cannes Film Fetsival this year. “Leave No Trace” already premiered at Sundance and received rave reviews. Sony Pictures Worldwide was quick to acquire international rights, and Bleecker Sreet has aquired North Americn rights. “Leave No Trace,” set in Portland’s Forest Park, tells the tale of Will and his teenage daughter, Tom, who “have lived off the grid, blissfully undetected by authorities in a vast nature reserve on the edge of Portland. Koerner Camera Systems, based out of Portland, Oregon hosted their 2nd annual Pacific Northwest Lens Summit this month. This the largest trade show in the country that specializes in motion picture camera lenses. About 250 people came to see lenses, filters, FIZ controllers and focusing aids, anamorphics and adapters, gimbals, cameras, and camera robots presented by thirty different exhibitors.

Continuing the celebration of its 50th Anniversary Year, Oregon Film goes this time to Brownsville which plays the mythic town of Castle Rock in Rob Reiner’s adaptation of Stephen King’s short story “The Body.” Once again River Phoenix stars, this time along side Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman, Jerry O’Connell and Kiefer Sutherland; Richard Dreyfuss and even John Cusack make appearances just for good measure.
