Oregon Film: Who We Are & What We Do (Update 2022)

What has Oregon Film been up to? – After assuring our industry worked so well through the turbulent pandemic period with several projects of all sizes, 2022 started off with a slow down. Needless to say, Oregon is still attractive and a great place to bring your creative production. Recently we worked with the state legislature and partners like the OMPA and the IATSE and SAG-AFTRA unions to increase the film and media cash rebate percentages from 18% to 25%. In addition, the annual funding for the OPIF program increased from $14M to $20M.

Hinge Digital Wins a National ADDY Award

#OregonMade Hinge Digital won anADDY Award at the national level for Alpenrose’s “Keep Portland Small” campaign. Hinge won the ADDY at the 2022 American Advertising Awards in the Animation, VFX & Motion Graphics category. That’s after winning multiple Gold ADDYs in Seattle this spring.

Big congrats to all of Hinge’s amazing artists who created this charming CG stop-motion style world.

Picture This! IN-CAMERA VFX AND XR STAGE

Picture This has been creating some terrific in-camera VFX and XR production work.

In camera VFX/ XR production is the exciting new ability to shoot anywhere, any time and at any scale in a single, controlled location. Summer Makeup Camp

The Art of Makeup School’s Summer Makeup Camp is the perfect opportunity for aspiring makeup artists, actors, or those working in film production to learn about makeup and how to apply it. All ages from 12 up are welcome!

Here’s what’s covered:

Day 1 Corrective Beauty: Color theory, skin tone matching, highlighting and contouring, corrective techniques, and a classic beauty look

Day 2 Fashion Makeup: Editorial fashion look, winged liner, strip lashes, perfect lips, and smoky eyes

Day 3 Special FX Makeup: Create bruises, cuts, and wounds using a variety of makeup mediums

Day 4 Film & TV Makeup: Using makeup for character development, film makeup tips & tricks

SOU Digital Cinema program launches unique “Crew Experience”

After a two-year pandemic delay, Southern Oregon University has launched its innovative, new, 12-credit spring immersion course called “The Crew Experience.” Student filmmakers spend an entire term learning on location, collaborating under the supervision of faculty and experienced industry mentors on the set of a significant film project designed to emulate the professional working environment.

Students had to apply and interview for their crew positions and were placed based on the experience, skill levels and portfolios of work they have accumulated in preceding classes.

Outside The Frame’s World Premiere of 360° Films by Houseless Youth at OMSI June 2nd

Outside The Frame, a non-profit based in Portland that trains homeless and marginalized youth to be directors of their own films and lives, is having its world premiere of 360° films at OMSI’s Kendall Planetarium on Thursday June 2nd. Doors will open at 6pm for the 6:15pm viewing, and at 6:45pm for the 7:00pm viewing. The filmmakers will also be in attendance and there will be a reception in the lobby to take place from 6pm-8:30pm. Tickets are on a sliding scale and no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

IATSE Local 488 is the union that covers most Pacific Northwest crew positions/Crafts on motion picture, TV/Streaming, commercials and other digital media productions.

Music Video Make-A-Thon for Black Porltand-Based Musicians – Open Signal

Open Signal’s 2nd annual music video make-a-thon will be hosted on Saturday June 18th, and will honor Juneteenth celebrations by making music videos for Black Portland-based musicians. Spots are limited to 24 Open Signal Members and the registration deadline is May 23rd. Filmmakers will work together to come up with concepts, storyboard, shooting, and editing all within the 6 hour time limit and Open Signal will host a screening that night to view the music videos.
