Media Arts Education Fund Scholarships
Intel Grant offers $2000 student opportunity

Students pursuing careers as media professionals have more opportunity to fund their studies with the help of scholarships from the Oregon Media Production Association’s Edward Gustamante Media Arts Education Fund.  The Fund’s objective is to encourage excellence in Oregon’s media production industry by providing financial assistance to those expanding their education in a media related field.  The Media Arts Education Fund offers scholarships typically ranging from $300 to $1000 to Oregon students working in or studying journalism, film, video, audio, photography or new media.

Visiting Artist Nominated for Daytime Emmy Award

2011 Daytime Emmy nominee Kerry Herta leads makeup artist workshops in Portland June 1-6.

Kerry Herta, the founder of Colour Box Makeup Studios who will be teaching a pair of upcoming artist workshops in Portland, has been nominated for a 2011 Daytime Emmy Award.

Herta, along with her team, was nominated for her work as Makeup Department Head during All My Children’s conversion to the HD format in early 2010.

Before the winners are announced June 17, Kerry will be teaching two workshops in Portland, both of which are designed for aspiring film/TV makeup artists.

The Wheel Of Fortune To Make Stop In Portland

We are excited that Portland will be hosting “The Wheel Of Fortune” in the not too distant future.  Kristi Turnquist blogged  on OregonLive.com that Vanna White will be at Pioneer Courthouse Square tomorrow showing off the new Nissan LEAF as part of a promo for the show.  Not only is Portland hosting this iconic show but they also are featuring the city as part of their “green week”.

Film Adaption “The Glass Menagerie” Red Carpet Screening

THE GLASS MENAGERIE: THE FILM –It’s a Wrap!

After 5 Months of Filming, Eastern Oregon University’s First Feature-Length Film Now Enters the Editing Stage.

The cast and crew of EOU’s first feature-length film called it a wrap after five months of intensive and involved filming. The Glass Menagerie, a 92-minute movie based on the famous play by Tennessee Williams and adapted into a film by Professor April Curtis, is now ready for the final concentrated effort of computer technology, voice-over work and musical theme music composed by Biology Professor John Rinehart.

“John Gets Wasted” Coming to Hollywood Theatre

Local comedy “John Gets Wasted” will debut at the Hollywood Theatre on May 28th at 7:00pm. The movie follows the story of a man who lost his job in the recession. Deciding his straight-laced behavior did him no good at all, John launches on a journey of vice and bad decisions. At the end of the day, will he find a new outlook on life, or will he just get wasted?

“John Gets Wasted” has been in the works for nearly two years.

New SAG and AFTRA Industrial Rates

Negotiations for the 2011 – 2014 contract with SAG and AFTRA on industrial rates have concluded.  The agreement is now called the Corporate/Educational and Non-Broadcast Contract and took effect on May 1, 2011.  The unions have sent the deal out to their membership for ratification and have stated that all new terms for this agreement will be effective as of May 1, 2011.  Please call or email if you need a quote for services or for details on the new rates.

Hand-made in Oreogn: LAIKA’s New Website and Featured Video

In addition to this week’s announcement of their two new feature film projects, Oregon’s LAIKA animation studio also rolled out a newly designed website including  the beautiful video embedded above.  The video provides unique insight into who LAIKA is, and how they combine a classic hand-made artisan craft with cutting edge technology to achieve spectacular results.  And best of all, they are doing it all right here in Oregon!

We think this exemplifies what the storytellers of our local film and media industry aspire to do; to build on our knowledge and experience from the past while embracing the technology and promise of the future.

Corvallis Oregon Great Locations, Talent, and Crews

Recently Sean Brown a Corvallis based Director made a demo scene from a novel called “Reality Crash” by Cyd Ropp and Lou Grantt, in hopes of getting the film made into a feature.

While gathering all the needed expertise to work on the project Sean found that Corvallis had more then enough talent to make the production a great one.

Sean’s AC, Gaffer, Set Designer/Builder, Costumer, and a few other positions all came from Corvallis. Ryan E Walters as Cinematographer and Christina Kortum for make-up came from the Portland area.

LAIKA and Focus Features Announce Two New Feature Film Projects in Oregon

CORALINE PARTNERS FOCUS FEATURES AND LAIKA RETEAM FOR TWO-PICTURE DISTRIBUTION DEAL; 3D STOP-MOTION ANIMATED COMEDY THRILLER PARANORMAN OPENS AUGUST 17, 2012

NEW YORK and PORTLAND, OR, May 4, 2011 – Focus Features and LAIKA, the two companies behind the Academy Award-nominated animated feature Coraline are reteaming for LAIKA’s next two projects. The first of the duo, ParaNorman, will be released nationwide on August 17th, 2012. The second, yet-to-be-named, picture will be released nationwide in 2014. Following the groundbreaking Coraline, ParaNorman is only the second stop-motion animated feature to be made in 3D.
