Portland Oregon Women’s FF, Hollywood Theatre and the NW Documentary Film Series Present: A Night with Director Barbra Kopple and Ellen Ratner – May 4, 2012

Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival (POWFest), the Hollywood Theatre and NW Documentary are excited to announce “A Night with Barbara Kopple and Ellen Ratner,” taking place Friday, May 4th 2012.

The evening includes a reception; director’s screening of A Force of Nature; and a live Q&A with Academy Award ® Winning Director, Kopple, as well as the subject of the film, philanthropist, Ellen Ratner.

Barbara Kopple is a renowned advocate of social justice and director of documentaries, as well as narrative TV and film.

Blue Like Jazz Is Playing In A Theater Near You

Based on the New York Times’ bestseller by Donald Miller, “Blue Like Jazz” tells the story of a nineteen-year-old sophomore who “tries to escape his Bible Belt upbringing for life in the Pacific Northwest at the most godless campus in America”.  A passion project from the start, filmmakers Donald Miller, (screenwriter) and Steve Taylor (director/screenwriter) used KickStarter to raise $345,992 to get the project off the ground.

New Music Video by Portland’s Day 1000 Films Premiers on Britain’s NME.com

“C’mon Doll” by Seattle’s My Goodness was shot in the Historic Bob White Theater and Academy Theater in SE Portland with the band footage shot in a barn in Scappoose. This is the Second music video in a month by Portland’s Day 1000 Films with a third to be released in May as well as two short films, “The Last 8” and “The Happy Machine”. The video was made to promote the new single in support of the band’s May tour through Europe opening for “We Are Augustines”.

Teen Video Challenge Competition Awards Announced

DIVA’s Youth Visions’ program announced the 2012 Teen Video Challenge Competition winners with a screening and awards ceremony on Saturday, April 14th at the Bijou Theater in Eugene.

The festival’s Jury was please to recognize two first place winning videos this year. Festival Director Steve Newcomb made the awards before a packed theater.

South Eugene High School student Jordyn Roach won a $200 Jury First Place award for her claymation film Jovial Giraffes – a short video in which inanimate objects spring to life from a young boy’s sketchpad.

SHIVER, produced by Bandersnatch FilmCo in association with Cyclone Productions, Inc. on location in Portland, Or will have its South America Premiere at the 2012 Fantaspoa International Film Festival in Porto Alegre, Brasil.

Producer and screenplay author, Robert D. Weinbach and Portland Co-Producer,  

A.J. Gordon, produced  SHIVER under the Oregon Film Incentive program.

CELL COUNT, another Portland production, produced under the state incentive program has also been selected as the closing night film of the Fantaspoa Film Fest.

DIVAs Youth Visions program is pleased to host the 2012 Teen Video Challenge Competition with a screening of entries and winning videos. Each year teens from all over Lane County submit work that is reviewed by a panel of video professionals and educators. Winning videos will be awarded certificates and cash prizes at this years event. This year 16 videos representing a wide range of film themes will be screened and include animation, documentary, music video, and narrative film categories.

Eastern Oregon Film Festival Announces New Dates

 

[LA GRANDE, OR] Putting our feet up after a successful 3rd annual event last October felt really nice.  But we’re diving back into it, readying ourselves for another amazing year.

We have decided to move the film festival to a date that can be more accessible to our regional friends and introduce visitors to Eastern Oregon’s awesome winter destination.

 

Drum roll please….

The 4th Annual EOFF will take place
February 28th through March 2nd of 2013.

It’s going to be the best EOFF yet.
