Film Fighting Classes in Portland

I’m professional actor and fight coordinator Kendall Wells.

I’m offering classes in Portland on fight performance for film and television. I’ve been teaching for about nine years, but only recently decided to hold a regular class (twice per month). I have held a couple workshops in conjunction with Cast Iron Studios in the past, including one taught by my mentor, fight master Anthony De Longis. The workshops were a huge success, and all the students have expressed great interest in training more.

Portland produced “Appisode” “The Digits” recently was nominated as Best Educational Web Series by the International Academy of Web Television. The IAWTV is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of web television. The award ceremony will be in Las Vegas during the International Consumer Electronic Show January 8. BUOY – Todd Haynes Executive Produces Portland Feature Film

(Portland, OR) BUOY, a local and independent feature written and directed by Steven Doughton and starring Tina Holmes (Six Feet Under, Shelter, Leverage) and Matthew Del Negro (The Sopranos, The West Wing, Chelsea Walls) begins its theatrical release at The Hollywood Theatre, November 28 through December 3, 2012

Synopsis: A woman receives a telephone call from her long-lost brother — reconnecting with the central, though neglected, emotional anchor in her life. In the span of an 80- minute conversation, the two siblings test the strength of a deep, if challenged, love.

2013 OpenLens Festival Deadline – December 7th

(Eugene, OR) The deadline nears for submitting entries in the 2013 OpenLens Festival hosted by the Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts (DIVA) in Eugene. The Festival seeks submissions by Oregon filmmakers for its ninth annual celebration of the short film genre to be held on Saturday January 26th, 2013. Prizes include: $500 Jury Award, $200 Jury Honorable Mention, and $100 Audience Choice Award. Submissions are limited to 15 minutes with films 10 minutes or less preferred.Oregon filmmakers are encouraged to submit their best work to what has become Eugene’s premier winter film festival.

Join the Co-Op! Portlandia is Gearing Up for Season 3

Portlandia returns January 4th with a whole new, ten episode season of sketches.

Back in August, Portlandia’s director, Johnathan Krisel told the Oregonian that this season was “getting weirder”, so lots to look forward too then! Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein will be working with some returning favorites, like Kyle MacLachlan as Portland’s fictitious mayor, as well as plenty of new characters such as Chloë Sevigny playing a new roommate for Carrie and Fred. However, IFC didn’t want to make hardcore fans wait until January for the new season so they are showing, “Winter In Portlandia” as a special, airing December 14th.

Hollywood Theatre Marquee Kickstarter Campaign!

The Hollywood Theatre, Portland’s historic nonprofit theatre, is in dire need of a new marquee. The current marquee is crumbling and leaking through the roof, slowly damaging the beautiful façade. To raise the remaining money to replace it, the theatre has kicked off a campaign on the crowd-funding website, Kickstarter.

The goal is to raise the remaining $55,000 to fabricate and install a new neon, illuminated sign based on the design of the theatre’s original marquee of 1926 .

39th Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival

Northwest filmmakers put their hearts on stage this November 9-18 during the Northwest Film Center’s 39th Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival.

Feature film highlights include Lynn Shelton’s YOUR SISTER’S SISTER, starring Rosemarie DeWitt, Emily Blunt, and Mark Duplass; James Westby’s RID OF ME starring Katie O’Grady; a special FREE 50th Anniversary screening of POLLUTION IN PARADISE, the 1962 KGW-8 produced film that documents the beginning of the environmental movement in Oregon that became the hallmark of former Governor Tom McCall’s tenure; and closing the Festival is Matt McCormick’s THE GREAT NORTHWEST.

Second Half of 2012 is Booming With Indie Film Production in Oregon

Oregon has always been known as a great place for the independent film scene, and 2012 is no exception. Since July, there have been four independent films that have been accepted as a part of the Indigenous Oregon Production Investment Fund which was created in 2009. In addition, critically acclaimed director Kelly Reichardt is directing her fourth film in Oregon. The first one to go into production was “The A List”, which was produced in Lake Oswego.
