The Indie Game Convention (that took place October 3-4) was a huge success. The two day convention showcased 15 games all created by local Eugene developers, such as Pipeworks, Buzz Money (bought by Zynga), GarageGames among a few. This new breed of gaming company creates a variety of jobs, from designers to engineers, programmers to producers and now in Eugene around 150 people are working in game development.
The Oregon Story Board announced its five early-stage companies that were selected for the first OSB Accelerator Class. There is a vibrant mix of film & video, digital media, animation, content, and gaming industries – all that “make up Oregon’s digital storytelling ecosystem”.* The companies are:
CHROMA Chroma makes high-design tools for the creative class. Their first product is Chroma Signal, a mobile app that allows users to create, share, and subscribe to YouTube playlists. Chroma makes it easier to create and distribute lo-fi TV content with great storylines.
Applications are now open for the 2014 Oregon Story Board accelerator program. Interested companies need to have their applications in by July 15th, 2014.

One year ago, Phrenic launched in the App Store and became the first iOS thriller that users could watch, read, and play. This cloning thriller–created in Portland–is told using episodes, mobile games, choose-your-own-adventure stories, social media fiction and more.
Heads up that VFX/PDX, the local visual effects artist user group, has a meeting on tap for today (April 17) featuring David Jahns of Joint Editorial, Wieden and Kennedy’s in-house post production facility. He’ll be showing off the editing software Smoke from Autodesk and his workflow for the great work coming out of Joint.
As we near July and the beginning of a new fiscal year, we are preparing to open up the application process for our “local filmmaker” program, commonly referred to as the Indigenous Oregon Production Investment Fund (iOPIF).
We will begin accepting iOPIF applications on May 5th, 2014. Our iOPIF Advisory Committee will evaluate all applications submitted between May 5th and May 9th as having been submitted at the same time. Intel CEO Brian Krzanich kicked off the 2014 CES with a keynote that covered a lot of interesting new developments at Intel. In the world of digital storytelling Krzanich showed off the Leviathan project that Intel Research Labs has been working on with the USC World Building Media Lab. Tawny Schileski of Intel Research Labs was one of the key partners on the project and we’re proud to say that she’s also been a key player in the formation of the Oregon Story Board.
