“Night Moves” To Get A May 30th Release

“Night Moves” will be opening May 30th at the Angelika Film Center in New York, most likely followed by openings in Los Angeles and Portland before playing other cities nationwide.

The film will also be screening in advance of the release date, at the Tribeca Film Festival (April 21st, 24th and 27th), as well as at a few other U.S. festivals.

“The Wilderness of James” to World Premiere at SXSW

The iOPIF feature, “The Wilderness of James“, that shot in Portland in 2012, is to have it’s world premiere at SXSW this year.  Michael Johnson (formerly from Kamp Grizzly), wrote and directed the feature,  it stars Kodi Smit-McPhee (“The Road”, voice of Norman Babcock in “ParaNorman”), Virginia Madsen (“Sideways”), Isabelle Fuhrman (“Orphan”), Evan Ross (“Jeff Who Lives At home”), and Danny Devito (“One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest”).

Moviemaker Magazine Awards Two Oregon Cities With Honors For “Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker 2014”!

In years gone by, Moviemaker Magazine lumped together big city and small town to compete for the sought after title of, “Best Places To Live and Work as a Moviemaker”.  This year, the magazine has split their list into three components:

  • Top Big Cities (they define as more than 50,000 residents)
  • Top Small Cities (100,000)
  • Top Towns (under 100,000)

Reese Witherspoon’s “Wild” Shot More Locations In Oregon Than Any Other Project To Date

It was gratifying that “Wild” shot in more places in our state than any other feature film to date.  Reese Witherspoon (“Walk The Line, Mud”) traveled the entire length of Oregon from southern and central regions, up to the Gorge and Portland metro while shooting (author), Cheryl Strayed’s, NY Times best-seller novel, “Wild”.  Witherspoon is not only starring in this Fox Searchlight feature, but producing with business partner Bruna Papandrea (“Warm Bodies”, “all Good Things”) under their Pacific Standard banner, and River Road’s, Bill Pohland (“The Tree of Life”, “Twelve Years A Slave”). Of the five major broadcast television networks’ 23 new one-hour dramas offered up last year, only two were filmed in Hollywood. State tax incentives from outside California have successfully lured many productions to other economies, and created a growing market for a variety of property owners in Oregon as location providers. Indicating the extent to which films are made outside the confines of studio lots in America, about five years ago- when California still commanded the lion’s share of the film location market -Los Angeles County issued permits for over 30,000 film location days, with about 75% of Southern California’s location filming shooting in private residences. “Wild” Set to Film Throughout Oregon in October

A few months back it was announced that Portland based author Cheryl Strayed’s successful memoir “Wild” was being made into a feature film with Fox Searchlight producing and distributing the film.  Reese Witherspoon’s company Pacific Standard originally optioned the theatrical rights.  Acclaimed director Jean-Marc Vallée (recently directed “Dallas Buyers Club) is directing.  Now with just a few weeks to go before principal photography, it appears that the film will cover more parts of Oregon than any other project of recent memory. “C.O.G.” Made Its Oregon Premiere in Salem

“C.O.G.”, a film adaptation of a David Sedaris work, made it’s Oregon debut last night at the Salem Cinema, Salem’s only independently owned and operated movie theater specializing in art, foreign and independent film.   There was a big turnout and a full house for the reception, featuring cider from Wandering Aengus Ciderworks and apples from Oregon Heritage Farm – a featured location for the film, wine from Namaste Vineyards and fresh apple cider from E.Z. “Night Moves” was written by Kelly Reichardt and Jon Raymond (“Mildred Pierce”, “Meek’s Cutoff”, “Wendy and Lucy”) and Executive Produced by Kim Saerom, Brett Cranford, Lourenço Sant’Anna, Alejandro De Leon, Todd Haynes, and Larry Fessenden, and starring Jesse Eisenberg  (“The Social Network”), Dakota Fanning (“The Secret Life of Bees”), and Peter Sarsgaard (“Blue Jasmine”).
