Oregon Producer Named Honorary Co-chair of Wisconsin Film Festival

I’m proud to announce that I have been invited to be an honorary co-chair of the 2011 Beloit International Film Festival.  Affectionately known as BIFF, the festival is in its sixth year and has been touted as a “must-attend event” by Moviemaker Magazine showcasing both big releases and indie films. The festival has played host to filmmakers from around the world and, in a short time, has established itself as a truly international festival. “Meek’s Cutoff” screening to Benefit Oregon Cultural Trust – tickets available

Join us for a special screening of “Meek’s Cutoff,” Tuesday, March 15th at The Historic Elsinore Theatre in Salem.

All tickets are $20 and proceeds benefit the Oregon Cultural Trust. Tickets can be purchased in person (check only) at the Oregon Film office, or at Tickets West or at the Elsinore Theatre Ticket Office. Veteran Filmmaker Attends Film School

Someone needs to sing their praises:  you know, the men and women who mentor, intern and teach film.  This last summer, I returned to the University of Oregon to attend classes being offered through the new Cinema Studies Department.  I had formerly attended the U of O as a child of the 60’s, who had wanted to be a poet. As a direct result of the people I met there, I became a poetic cinema filmmaker.

Good Washington Post article about “Meek’s Cutoff”

I came upon a link to this article in the Washington Post about “Meek’s Cutoff”.  The film is due to be released in theaters in April and I’m very curious to see how it does.  The film has already made the rounds at the Venice, Toronto, and Sundance Film Festivals and by in large the critics have given the film very good reviews.

It was already a banner year for Oregon film makers at Sundance with six films represented at the festival with Oregon ties.  At the final day awards ceremony, 2011 became an award winning year for Oregon film makers.  Portland based director Peter Richardson won the Grand Jury Prize in the U.S. Documentary Competition at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival which as Shawn Levy described it “one of the most prestigious awards that can be won by a non-fiction film anywhere in the world.”  Continue reading... ““How to Die in Oregon” Wins at Sundance”

Sundance Round Up And Oregon Wine

Shawn Levy (The Oregonian) has been busy blogging from Sundance with the roundup of the fantastic showing of Oregon made films and documentaries that have been screening, check it out here.

They  were not the only Oregon products featured at Sundance this year – Troon Vineyard (located in the beautiful Applegate Valley near Grant’s Pass) was selected to pour at the Sundance opening ceremonies.  They served; Troon 2009 Viognier, 2007  River Guide White and 2009 Druid’s Fluid Red and 2007 Kubli Bench Cabernet Sauvignon.  Continue reading... “Sundance Round Up And Oregon Wine”

Video Footage of the NYC Premiere of Portlandia

It was a great night at the Edison Ballroom Wednesday night as IFC put together a fantastic party for “Portlandia”.  The space was decked out in everything Portland – Douglas Fir trees, cocktail tables with bicycle tires, and of course plenty of birds!  Local winery Argyle Wines had their 2007 Pinot featured and Rogue Ales was there serving their Dead Guy Ale.  Everyone that attended also got one of the signature “Portlandia” bottles.  I think the entire SNL cast was there along with Lorne Michaels, Heather Graham, Kyle MacLaclan, and “Kenneth” from “30 Rock”.  Continue reading... “Video Footage of the NYC Premiere of Portlandia”
