At Sony Pictures “A Greener World” even The Wheel Is Green…..

We have already blogged about the Wheel of Fortune shooting a week’s worth of shows this week end and early next in Portland for their up-coming “green week” but I also wanted to take the opportunity to give a shout out to Sony Pictures Entertainment and their sustainability efforts.

Like other studios, Sony Pictures has in place it’s best practices and green policies; such as their “Road to Zero” (zero waste) and  “A Greener World” vision, on set, in studio offices, stages and across all corporate operations.  Continue reading... “At Sony Pictures “A Greener World” even The Wheel Is Green…..”

ReStore is Open for Film and TV Business

Items all from the ReStore warehouse at the recent Home and Garden show

ReStore, a Habitat For Humanity division, can be found nationwide and is open to the public.  They sell an enormous variety of reclaimed building materials; everything from doors and windows all the way to the proverbial kitchen sink.  The proceeds from our local stores go to Habitat for Humanity to help build homes for needy families right here in Oregon.

There are three thriving ReStore warehouses in Portland alone and 19 in Oregon with recycled goodies coming and going all the time.  Continue reading... “ReStore is Open for Film and TV Business”

Commercial Production Brings Value to the Community, the Environment and the Local Economy at the Same Time

Not uncommonly, we just had a major US retailer shoot a commercial here in Oregon but this one was different, they did it with a sustainable mandate that came from the client’s corporate office.  The greening company, EcoSet was hired to oversee the process.  EcoSet operate as an  “environmental production resource committed to implementing customized, practical, and sustainable environmental solutions for commercial productions”.   A relatively new breed of environmentalists are finding a way to green commercial and feature productions in creative and resourceful ways by plugging into what communities already offer. What Is Both Green And Universal At The Same Time?….

….sustainable fairy tales of course!

We are excited to have the opportunity to work with NBC Universal this summer on greening the new series, “Grimm”.  NBC Universal’s Television and Environmental Policy affirms they are, “committed to pursuing environmentally sustainable practices across all of our operations” and these are clearly laid out in their environmental policies that cover the production office, construction, on set and wrap.  That’s great for the state of Oregon as well as the environment generally! Gearhead Grip & Electric has been practicing sustainable methods for a long time – full recycling on it’s trucks and trash disposal for customers, green holiday gifts etc etc.   – but last week they took their commitment to the next level when Don Rohrbacker decided to employ about 15 brush-munching goats to clear their truck  yard (a 50 x 50 foot lot).  Continue reading... “Go Green -Got Goats?”

It’s Not Easy Being Green…

Playing in the Ashland Independent Film Festival this year (April 8-12) is “Greenlit,” the documentary chronicling the attempt to make the feature film, “The River Why “green” from pre through post-production.  The film portrays the enthusiasm, challenges and successes when trying to green a film.  “The River Why” was shot entirely on location in Oregon.

Following the screening of “Greenlit,” a panel will discuss what it means to live and work green in the entertainment industry.
