This position will split time between work for NW Documentary Arts & Media and their in -house projects and working with the resident filmmaker of the Indie Doc Incubator program.

LUNAFEST Comes to Portland on January 25,  7:00 pm at Clinton Street Theater.

Established in 2000 by LUNA, the makers of the Whole Nutrition Bar for Women, LUNAFEST connects women, their stories and their causes through film. This traveling film festival, which will visit over 175 cities this season, spotlights the work of a diverse array of talented women filmmakers with intelligent, funny and thought-provoking themes. The Portland screening will be on January 25th, 7pm at the Clinton Street Theater as part of the POWMonthly Screening series, brought to you by the Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival.

Oregon Media Production Community Rolls Out Red Carpet, Honors Best Local Performances Of The Year

The annual 2015 Oregon Actors Awards took place at the Portland Center Stage, to a packed house over the week end.  The awards recognized outstanding members of Oregon’s film, video and multimedia industry.  Four awards were given to film, TV and commercial actors, and one for community service.

Amazon Aquires Elemental Technolgies

Elemental Technologies, Inc., one of Portland’s fastest growing tech companies, announced today that they have joined forces with Amazon Web Services, Inc.  According to CEO, Sam Blackman, the acquisition will enable Elemental to “accelerate the development and adoption of (our) software-defined video platform”.  Elemental specializes in “high-speed video encoding and transcoding software” that can “provide multiscreen content delivery to audiences on any screen or device”.  Their headquarters are based in Portland, with offices in the UK, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore. Me, I’m not a sportser. Call me the Gutter Queen. Or “She Who Picks Dandelions in Right Field,” but I’ve never grokked athletics. I do love the salty snacks, though.

And the camaraderie. I like that a lot.

I dig the friendly competition between folks playing anything having to do with getting balls of various sizes into various containers, whether netted or mitted or flagged. Koerner Camera Awards Inaugural Film Scholarships To Two PSU Students

Koerner Camera“The Film Program and the College of the Arts at Portland State University are pleased to announce the Koerner Camera Film Scholarship, the inaugural film scholarship in the School of Theater + Film. This scholarship will provide access to high quality film education and pre-professional training for two undergraduate film students with a course of study emphasizing PSU_Logocinematography. Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded each year for five years.

Hollywood Theatre Creates New Media Arts Program For Under-served Youth

A new initiative from Hollywood Theatre at Open Meadow Middle School has been made possible by a generous $280,000 grant from the Oregon Community Foundation, $100,000 from the Mt. Hood Cable Regulatory Commission, and $10,500 from the Oregon Arts Commission.

The Hollywood Theatre has already had a three year partnership with Open Meadow High School (OMHS), and coupled with the nearly a decade of working with under-served, middle school age youth, they will “cultivate a sustainable, community powered, school-based media arts program at OMMS, bolstering engagement with students’ families and the surrounding community, and increasing the expertise of educators in the area of media arts”.
