Amazon Aquires Elemental Technolgies

Elemental Technologies, Inc., one of Portland’s fastest growing tech companies, announced today that they have joined forces with Amazon Web Services, Inc.  According to CEO, Sam Blackman, the acquisition will enable Elemental to “accelerate the development and adoption of (our) software-defined video platform”.  Elemental specializes in “high-speed video encoding and transcoding software” that can “provide multiscreen content delivery to audiences on any screen or device”.  Their headquarters are based in Portland, with offices in the UK, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore. “Dryland”, a 62-minute documentary by Sue Arbuthnot and Richard Wilhelm of Hare in the Gate Productions, makes its Portland premiere at the 41st Northwest Filmmaker’s Festival, in the Northwest Film Center’s. (Following the screening – “Inside the World of Film Composing,” a workshop given by “Dryland” composer, Mark Orton.)

Fox Searchlight’s “Wild” Premieres In Telluride

The 41st Telluride Film Festival announced it’s lineup today. Fox Searchlight Picture’s “Wild” will be premiering at the festival.  “Wild” starring Reese Witherspoon, and produced by her production company, Pacific Standard, shot in more locations throughout Oregon than any other project filmed in the state to date.  From southern Oregon; Crater Lake and Ashland; to the Badlands, Smith Rock and Bend in Central Oregon; and also the Portland metro area, Timberline and Bridge of The Gods in the Columbia River Gorge, to name a few.  Continue reading... “Fox Searchlight’s “Wild” Premieres In Telluride”

Annual OMPA Classic Raises Money for Media Arts Scholarships with Golf and Croquet

Golf, croquet and a great party are on the table for the Oregon Media Production Association’s annual tournament and fundraiser next Friday, July 11. Mt. Hood serves as the backdrop for this full day of fun, sportsmanship and stewardship of Oregon’s burgeoning media production field. The event is sponsored by production houses and vendors to Oregon’s thriving media production industry, including title sponsor Zarr Studios.

The 9th Annual DisOrient Asian American Film Festival returns to the Bijou Art Cinemas in Eugene, Oregon on April 10-13, 2014.  DisOrient celebrates new, independent films about Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) that showcase AAPI writers, directors, actors, and artists who deliver brilliant scripts, creative animation, diverse casts, and fresh storytelling.

Portland, Oregon – Lawrence (Larry) Johnson, known for award-winning documentary films STUFF and HAND GAME, has told many stories through his films, but has been haunted for over 40 years by his own: When he was in the Army in Saigon in the 1970s, he fell in love with a Vietnamese woman named Candy, and when they split at the end of the war, she may have been pregnant with his child.

NBC Universal’s, Season 3 of “Grimm” Premieres Strong – More Great Episodes to Come
