EOFF2011 Full Event Schedule

[La Grande, Oregon] The Eastern Oregon Film Festival will celebrate its 3rd annual event October 20-22 in beautiful downtown La Grande, Oregon. The 3-day event features 2 spectacular independent films — 10 features and 10 short films, 7 of the Northwest’s most notable up-and-coming indie bands, and 3 after-parties at some of La Grande’s best venues.

Call for submissions: 2012 OpenLens Festival (Eugene)

(Eugene, Oregon)  The 2012 OpenLens Festival seeks submissions by Oregon filmmakers for its eighth annual celebration of the short film genre to be held in Eugene, January 28-29, 2012.  Prizes include: $500 Jury Award, $200 Jury Honorable Mention, and $100 Audience Choice Award. Submissions are limited to 15 minutes with films 10 minutes or less preferred.

Good Works Film Festival

Good Works Film FestivalWelcome to Good Works Film Festival, a first-time event in Eugene (with a kick-off screening in Portland). We are presenting a series of acclaimed feature-length films with an array of social justice themes.

GWFF is not only about great films; what happens once the lights come on is equally important. The festival celebrates and encourages thoughtful discussion, community engagement and positive action, and will be providing a context, time and space for this to occur.

Portland Premiere Of “The River Why” To Benefit The River Network

River Network National River Rally (a Portland based national nonprofit since 1998) will kick off with the benefit screening of The River Why on September 9th, 7pm at the Hollywood Theatre.   Actors William Hurt, Zach Gilford (“Friday Night Lights”), Alex Hurt and Producer Kristi Denton Cohen will be on hand before the screening and for a post-film Q&A.

The River Why was shot entirely on location in Oregon and tells the story of 20 year old fly-fishing prodigy, Gus Orviston (Zach Gilford), who, in an act of rebellion, shuns his prior life and family for what he thinks will be a secluded existence of fly fishing heaven on the banks of a beautiful river. Carefully selected by filmmakers Aaron Katz, Matt McCormick, and Kelly Reichardt and curators May Barruel and Justen Harn, this exhibition features stills from three films shot in Oregon: Cold Weather, Some Days Are Better Than Others,and Meek’s Cutoff. Crew photographers include Scott Green, Neil Kopp, and Greg Schmitt. Shawn Levy, a film critic for The Oregonian, will be providing a curatorial statement that will be sent out to press at the end of August. Case Study: Fashionbuddha Shares the Monterey Bay Love

Oregon-based companies pride themselves on being amongst the first to leap beyond the established creative norms. And Fashionbuddha, an animation studio in Old Town Portland, thrives off this innate quest for innovation. “We’re a unique studio from the standpoint that we have animation and interactive under the same roof,” explains founder and Executive Director Robert Lewis.

Fashionbuddha got its start ten years ago creating high-end flash websites but has since expanded into mobile apps, interactive installations and broadcast animation. “We were all under the same roof at the beginning because it made sense with those projects but now we’ve splintered to some degree and it’s just as exciting,” says Lewis. NBC Introduces “Grimm” to Television Critics Association

Grimm‘s been accumulating more and more positive word-of-mouth since it’s debut at Comic-Con in July and NBC took the opportunity to formally introduce the show to the Television Critics Association Monday afternoon along with the rest of its fall lineup. So far, the critics have plenty of good things to say.
