Cinema Unbound Drive-In Theater at Zidell Yards

The Northwest Film Center and Portland Art Museum are creatively collaborating during these socially distanced times to connect with audiences and bring innovative film and new media exhibitions to our community. The Cinema Unbound Drive-In, running August 6–September 27, 2020, welcomes guests to safely gather and experience the power that truly radical and entertaining cinematic storytelling can bring. This will be the first of many ways to change the archaic paradigm of what cinema can—and will—be.

“House on Fire” asks individuals to save one thing if their house were ablaze. The items they choose tell entire stories about culture, identity, and the true value of material possessions.

A new #OregonMade documentary series, “House on Fire” was created and directed, by Heather Hawksford and Reed Harkness. The first four episodes, all filmed in Oregon, are available on Topic.com. (The first episode is free, but the remaining episodes require a subscription to their new streaming service.

‘The Astrid Experience’, A Film Venture By Salem, OR Native & PSU Alumni – Cal Barnes – Open For Investment Through August 3rd, 2020

‘The Astrid Experience‘, the upcoming feature film from LA Filmmaker, Salem, OR local, and Portland State Alumni Cal Barnes, is currently open for investment. The production partnered with the Silicon Valley based company, Wefunder, to hold an SEC regulated raise until August 3rd, 2020. Cal is in Oregon for the summer working on finishing the film, and wanted to extend this opportunity directly to the Oregon Film community. The project servers as a great point of entry for any aspiring investors or producers that are seriously interested in the entertainment industry and being a part of a legitimate Hollywood production.

Safe Sets International – #PracticeSafeSets

As many of you may have seen over the last few weeks, Safe Sets launched a simple certification program to help crews get some basic training and insight on set safety in the post-COVID world. Since so many of us signed up and took the course, we wanted to share some further insights into just what SSI is. To that end, we spoke to Founder Alex Kolodkin this week, and he provided some detail and history.

Safe Sets International is a collaborative partnership that encourages the industry to #practicesafesets.

Join us (tomorrow (Thurs 7/23 at 12pm PT) for the live online debut of “Pedal Through“, a film about three young black women taking on a week-long bike packing adventure full of joy, healing, and mentorship with mother nature in Oregon’s backcountry. Followed by a panel discussion with the film’s cast and crew. This is the second annual Outdoor Adventure Film Grant – “Oregon’s Outdoors Are For Everyone” (OAFG19) – a co-venture between the Oregon Made Creative Foundation and Travel Oregon.

Tag! Queer Shorts Presents Queerotica

The Portland-based Tag! Queer Shorts Festival is offering monthly online community support events with all ticket sales and donations split evenly between participating filmmakers, the Tag! festival, and LGBTQIA+ serving community partners.

The next screening kicks off with a live viewing party of erotic shorts on July 31 at 8pm in collaboration with Catalyst: A Sex Positive Place, a venue that offers education, events, and space for fetish/kink communities.

The Queerotica program features festival-favorite adult submissions from past years as well as some fresh material from queer and trans filmmakers from around the globe.

#OregonMade Mural And Film Poster Exhibit At The Portland International Airport Gets A Refresh

The #OregonMade Mural and Poster Exhibit has been up in the Portland International Airport’s south pedestrian tunnel for two years now, (located underground between baggage claims 3 and 4, connecting the parking garage to the terminal). The mural and exhibit provide travelers with over 160 uninterrupted feet of art and film posters, representing a small collection of Oregon’s rich film history. Recently four new posters were added to the exhibit, “Shrill”, “Trinkets”, “Phoenix, Oregon” and “Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made” in a planned “refresh” to add in more projects that recently filmed in Oregon.

#OregonMade “The Rental” – On Video Demand This Friday

The Bandon, OR-shot feature film, “The Rental,” a horror-thriller directed by Dave Franco (“If Beale Street Could Talk”) and will be available in select theaters and available to watch on a variety of video on demand platforms beginning Friday, July 24.

The film stars Alison Brie (“Mad Men,” “Glow”), and Dan Stevens (“Downton Abbey”), in this horror-thriller – a couple looking to get away for a weekend of fun and relaxation with another couple — Sheila Vand (“A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night”) and Jeremy Allen White (“Shameless”) — but when they retreat to a house seemingly ideal for their vacation…they soon realize maybe it isn’t after all.

“The Last Blockbuster” – World Premiere Screening In Bend At Pop-Up Drive In!

“The Last Blockbuster” (2020) a feature-length documentary about “the rise and fall of Blockbuster video and how one small town store managed to outlast a corporate giant” is making its World Premiere screening at a BendFilm popup drive-in theatre (in Bend). The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, Zeke Kamm and Taylor Morden. Additionally, you are being invited to bring your old DVDs and VHS tapes to the screening to donate to the cause of keeping “the world’s last Blockbuster afloat“.
