Calvin Marshall opens this Friday, April 30th at the Varsity Theater in Ashland.

One of the largest film productions shot entirely in Southern Oregon,”Calvin Marshall,” an independent baseball comedy, stars Steve Zahn, Alex Frost and Michelle Lombardo, along with many recognizable stars from the big and small screen, including Jane Adams. Diedrich Bader, Abraham Benrubi and many others.

Securing funding while maintaining a career as an independent mediamaker can be a competitive, elusive, and often overwhelming proposition, especially in this era of reduced public and private support and economic uncertainty. Back by popular demand, this workshop combines a holistic and practical approach, sharing street-tested advice and presenting real life case studies of success. The goal is to help filmmakers attractively position their project, identify and address their strengths and weaknesses as fundraisers, and draw upon appropriate fundraising tools effectively.

On May 9^th at Cinema Pacific, there will be a staged reading of the feature script “Let’s Do It” written by U of O alum Bryce Zabel.  The story is based on true events surrounding the making of the first feature length student film which was produced in 1929 at the University of Oregon.  In addition to using local actors for the reading, University of Oregon President will be playing the part of the U of O President (talk about type casting!). 

Local filmmaker Sam Drevo will present his newly released film Trout on the Wind on the amazing story of restoration and renewal of Trout Creek through removal of Hemlock Dam. Sam Drevo and Ralph Bloemers, both avid whitewater paddlers and river advocates, collaborated on this production telling the story through the words of the individuals directly involved in it, and those influenced by it.

During this 4-hour Website Tune-Up Workshop you will:

• Get a chance to showcase your site and discuss what you want to do.
• Get an industrial-strength grade on your site, then look at what highly rated sites are doing right–even your competitors.
• Look at the user interface + visitor experience of your site in a focus group setting.
• Go to the site structure and look at the onpage SEO (page titles, keywords, alt-tags).
• Look at the off page SEO (outbound links, social networking connections).
