"Stand by Me" 25th Anniversary Celebration July 24th

"Stand by Me"

Brownsville, Oregon is about to come alive with “Stand By Me” fans!

Twenty-five years ago, Rob Reiner and his crew came to Brownsville to make the movie Stand By Me.  On Saturday, July 24th, Brownsville will be celebrating the movie’s anniversary with an event that’s fun for all ages.

There will be an amateur pie eating contest (where contestants eat blueberry pie with both hands behind their backs); dancing with a live band playing 50’s music; an old car cruise in; a photo display of pictures taken behind the scenes in 1985 and lots of other things to do and see.

Weiden + Kennedy are taking their Old Spice Campaign to the web – in real time!  The past few days they have been recording personalized messages and posting the videos on YouTube and it’s become quite the phenomenon!  Read Write Web got the low down on what W+K is up to.  If you type in  “Old Spice” on YouTube, you’ll see all the videos.  My personal favorite is the message to Alyssa Milano which has already had 72,000 posts.

Reprinted from the Oregonian:

Oregon City’s Funnelbox Motion Picture Studios received national recognition with a Silver Telly Award in May for its short promotional video “Blue Collar Creative.”

The film was a pro bono project conceived by CEO Robb Crocker for Main Street Oregon City’s “Blue Collar Creative” campaign to attract more creative firms to downtown Oregon City.

“We’re just really proud of the production and the effort that went into it,” he said. “This is pretty special.”

Pipeworks Announces Four New Releases

The Eugene based video game production company Pipeworks announced four new video games surrounding the E3 Expo in June.  Three of the four games are based on television shows that already bring an  avid audience to the game.  The video game industry is one entertainment based industry that often operates under the radar in Oregon but Eugene has been a hub of several top notch video game producers.  Pipeworks is definitely one of the companies leading the charge.

Local Director Matt Jay’s recent music video for Jennie Wayne is currently featured as WKE feature of the week.   The video “My Own Home” is a beautifully photographed one-shot music video that magnifies the artifacts and textures that make a space your home.  Local director/cinematographer Johnny Le shot the video .

I spoke to both Matt and Johnny today to get more info on how the video came about.  Matt has managed to make his way around the local music scene directing videos for a few other artists as well as directing a few short films.

Oregon's Diverse Talent Base – its Greatest Strength

Oregon Talent

Whether it’s the thriving independent music scene, live theater, or a combination of multiple creative disciplines, there is no doubt Oregon is a thriving base of creative expression.   According to the Oregon Arts Commission over 60,000 jobs in Oregon are directly related to the creative economy.  That may not sound like a lot of jobs but when you figure that Oregon has about 1/10 of the population of California, it’s a large section of the total workforce in Oregon.  So when a film or television project comes to Oregon, there is a rich and diverse depth of talent to pull from.
