That's a Wrap! La Grande Summer Film Project Concludes for 2010

The La Grande Summer Film Project has officially wrapped for 2010. The project drew over 75 participant this year as 8 teams battled through 48 hours in efforts to create 3-7 minute short films based on criteria given to them at the start of the project. 8 genres and 8 featured locations in La Grande, Oregon were used and the final films were screened outdoors on Depot Street next to Mt. Emily Ale House on Friday Night, August 20th. The event was packed and over 200 people witnessed the LGSFP 2010 premiere.

Archaeology FestFilm Series at DIVA Center – Eugene

Eugene, OR. The DIVA Center is hosting the last two programs in a four part “Best Of” the Archaeology Channel International Film and Television Festival series this weekend.

August 13th. DIVA screens The Archaeology FestFilm Series Program C “Standing With Stones” at 7:30 PM. Admission: $6. Doors open at 7:00.

How Oregon Businesses Profit From Local Productions

Over the next few weeks, just as I wrap up my internship at the Governor’s Office of Film and Television, I’ll be delivering the fruits of my labor in this four-part series on the media industry’s effects on the local economy. Since late June I’ve been interviewing Oregon businesses that work with production companies to see how the presence of the film and media industry has affected the local economy. Florists, hardware store owners – these people might seem to have little connection to the film industry.

What is Oregon’s on-screen image… and how are the TV and film industries faring here?

We’ve been reading lots of TV show news recently. The TNT show Leverage, which will wrap up shooting its third season on Friday, just announced it would be back in Oregon for a fourth season. Fans of the online series Thunderant will be happy to hear that it’s being turned into a new show all about Portland, debuting next year on the Independent Film Channel.

"Playground" Special Screening Event

The Portland Women’s Film Festival (a.k.a. POW Fest) will be placing a local spotlight on the issue of Child Trafficking and abuse on September 9th , 6pm at the Hollywood Theatre, with a special screening of the documentary “Playground” by Director Libby Spears, executive produced by George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh.  The screening will benefit Caldera and POW Fest Documentary Programming. The evening will begin with a reception, sponsored by New Belgium Brewing Company, a silent auction and special introduction by Senator Ron Wyden cosponsor of an anti-trafficking bill in the Senate and conclude with a special Question & Answer session with civic leaders and Spears immediately following the film.

DIVA Center to Host “Flickering Images and Silver Screens” Open House Showcasing Area Film Community

Eugene, OR. “Flickering Images and Silver Screens” is the theme of a special DIVA Center open house event during the First Friday Art Walk from 5:30PM to 8:00 PM on August 6th.  The Center will be hosting an informational evening showcasing many of the area’s film organizations that present film festivals, teach about film, and promote professional film, video, and media arts production.

IFC Takes Comedy Journey to ‘Portlandia’

‘SNL’ vet Armisen co-created, co-stars in sketch series

IFC has given a greenlight to a Lorne Michaels-exec produced sketch comedy half-hour, “Portlandia,” co-created by and starring Fred Armisen of “Saturday Night Live.”

The series, which begins production of six episodes in Portland, Ore., this month, is scheduled to premiere on IFC in early 2011. Former Sleater-Kinney guitarist Carrie Brownstein co-created “Portlandia” with Armisen and co-stars in the series, which will be directed by fellow creator Jonathan Krisel of “SNL.”
