An article this week in Oregon Business Magazine highlighted film production in the southern region of the state. Producer, Gary Kout, founder and director of SOFAT made note of the production upturn due in part to diverse locations and experienced crew. For the details read here.
Oregonian writer Kristi Turnquist posted this piece today collecting all the photos and tweets coming from the cast and producers of “Leverage”. This year the team decided to shoot the opening episode up in the Mount Hood area which is the first time the show has left the Portland Metro area. I’m sure when they wrote the episode, they didn’t plan for a blizzard but let’s all hope it goes well for them up on the mountain.

We noticed this weekend that the theatrical trailer for Kelly Reichardt’s feature film “Meek’s Cutoff” is now online. “Meek’s Cutoff” is due in theaters this April. More details on the film can be found here.
According to the film’s website, “Meek’s” will be in Portland on April 22 (Fox Tower), Bend on May 13 (Regal Pilot Butte 6), and Salem on May 13 (Salem Cinema).
For those of you in Oregon who are interested in seeing this movie, there will be a special screening at the Elsinore theater in Salem on March 15th to benefit the Oregon Cultural Trust.
A screening of the new local independent feature film FRANKLIN WUNDER will be at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland this Saturday Feb 26th at 12:30pm. It is the tender story of a dying man looking for some meaning to his past … and of a young woman he meets doing the same in seeking what her future might be. The feature-length movie was filmed in Portland and Astoria, Oregon.

2011 Shaping up to be Big Year for Oregon Film and Television Jobs
The Governor’s office of Film and Television reports that 2011 will be the biggest year for total dollars spent on film and television projects in Oregon’s history. Two television series filmed in Oregon, “Leverage” and “Portlandia,” have already announced that their networks have renewed their series.
2011 also marks the first year a major network has committed to shooting a pilot in Oregon with NBC Universal’s “Grimm.”
This week the 34th Portland International Film Festival (PIFF) puts a spotlight on the tremendous accomplishments of Oregon filmmakers, with screenings of Peter D. Richardsonʼs Sundance-acclaimed documentary “How to Die in Oregon“; Aaron Katzʼs Portland valentine “Cold Weather“; the Portland premiere of Matt McCormickʼs first feature film, “Some Days are Better Than Others” starring Portlandia’s Carrie Brownstein; and a program of “Made in Portland” short films featuring the works of Jim Blashfield, Joanna Priestley, Vince Malone, and more.

After months of jurying over 400 films from female filmmakers from around the world, the Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival (a.k.a. POW Fest) is pleased to announce the programming highlights planned for its fourth annual festival scheduled to take place March 9 – 13, 2011. “I am always thrilled after the POWFest schedule comes together to see the amazing talent of women filmmakers. We strive to showcase not only women who have been working for many years, the true pioneers in women-created cinema, but also those who are just getting their start.
I’m proud to announce that I have been invited to be an honorary co-chair of the 2011 Beloit International Film Festival. Affectionately known as BIFF, the festival is in its sixth year and has been touted as a “must-attend event” by Moviemaker Magazine showcasing both big releases and indie films. The festival has played host to filmmakers from around the world and, in a short time, has established itself as a truly international festival. The festival will kick off Thursday, February 17th and will continue through until Sunday, February 20th.
