NW Documentary’s spring-term Editing workshops are beginning in early April and there’s still space to register!

These five-week classes are dedicated to equipping you with the tools to make your videos look and sound their best. With our practical, hands-on instruction you’ll learn how to piece together a narrative and take the first step towards becoming the storyteller you want to be.

13th Annual DISORIENT ASIAN AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL OF OREGON

April 17-April 22, 2018 Eugene, OR

DisOrient is a social justice film festival showcasing the work of independent filmmakers, and features honest portrayals of Asian American and Pacific Islander experiences. The festival encompasses 5 days and 7 venues, with 29 filmmakers attending from Hong Kong, Canada and across the United States

A refreshing break from Hollywood, DisOrient features people of color in every film, and 18 films are written or directed by women. This curated film program brings the diversity of underrepresented voices and stories to Eugene.

Northwest Filmmaker Lynn Shelton’s Latest Film Opens In Portland & Vancouver April 6

Fresh from SxSW, OUTSIDE IN is Lynn Shelton’s latest project. It was shot in Granite Falls, Washington, and stars Edie Falco and Jay Duplass.

OUTSIDE IN opens April 6 at Cinema 21 in Portland and Kiggins Theater in Vancouver. Lynn will be there for Q&As on April 7!

After serving 20 years for the crime of essentially being in the wrong place at the wrong time, 38-year-old Chris (played by co-writer Jay Duplass, TRANSPARENT, LANDLINE) is granted early parole thanks largely to the tireless advocacy of Carol (award winner Edie Falco, NURSE JACKIE, THE SOPRANOS), his former high-school teacher.

Ashland Independent Film Festival Announces 2018 Program Details

The Ashland Independent Film Festival has announced its lineup for the five-day festival, April 12-16, 2018, screening in venues across Ashland and—for the first time—Medford. The year’s lineup includes over 120 films chosen from nearly a thousand films submitted to the festival, or specially selected by AIFF Artistic and Executive Director Richard Herskowitz. The entire program, including information about show times, live performances, art exhibits, filmmaker TalkBack panels, children’s programs, Community Conversations, and more is now online at ashlandfilm.org

To put it simply, there have been a lot of great movies made in Oregon. Going back more than 100 years to “The Fisherman’s Bride” in Astoria, through to Buster Keaton’s, “The General” shot in Cottage Grove; then moving into the westerns that took advantage of the diverse locations of Central Oregon and Mt. Hood – “True Grit”, “The Way West”, and “Bend of The River.” These were followed by musicals like, “Paint Your Wagon,” and classic indies like, “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest,” “Drugstore Cowboy,” and “Sometimes A Great Notion.”

Oregon’s Top Trainer Talks To The Animals

Lauren Henry and partner Roland Sonnenburg started Talented Animals in 2005, and, if a film was made in Oregon and there was a live animal in it, chances are they were trained by Talented Animals.

Willamette Week’s Jay Horton profiled Henry and Talented Animals which are now, arguably, the most sought-after animal trainer in the Pacific Northwest. The Ashland Independent Film Festival will announce its 2018 film and event lineup at their Festival Preview Night at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 20 at the SOU Music Recital Hall in Ashland. This is the first chance to see clips from festival films, pick up the Pocket Guide, and get insider information on special guests and new events for AIFF2018.
