Filmmakers begin to move film and television production up to the Pacific Northwest.
Portland, Ore. – Portland, Oregon is rapidly becoming the next production capital of the west thanks to the hit television show Portlandia, which debuted on the Independent Film Channel last January.
The wildly popular show, set to debut its second season in January 2012, stars comedians Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein. Armisen, best known as a returning cast member of Saturday Night Live and Brownstein, a former band member of Portland-based Sleater Kinney, first grabbed viewers attention when the six-episode series aired earlier this year. At last night’s annual meeting we showed off a collection of videos prior to the meeting. Many people were making their way into the room and may have missed this fantastic video that our friends from Electric Entertainment created. We’ve been looking for a fresh way to show off the variety of locations in the area and what better way than to see the locations they way they were shot on “Leverage”? We can’t wait to see what they will shoot next year when they are actually supposed to be in Portland (as was announced last night). Continue reading... “Great video from “Leverage’s” Electric Entertainment showing off Oregon”
Next year for season 5 of “Leverage,” expect a few changes including a new location for the show’s stages. The truth is the new space is actually an old one that has been frequently used as a stage for several features in the past (“Extraordinary Measures,” “Twilight,” and “Untraceable”). Before this season, the space down in Clackamas was 60,000 square feet of open warehouse space which wasn’t ideal for a TV series. This fall the team at “Leverage” took over the space and are dividing it into three usable production spaces. Continue reading... ““Leverage” Readies to Move into a New Stage Space for Season 5”

A nice review in The New York Times for the holiday special, “Jingle All The Way”. Bent Image Lab, a Portland, Oregon company, produced this 22 minute animated short for the Hallmark Channel over a six month period. It is set to premier this Friday 25th.
IFC is looking to go bigger and better with season 2 of “Portlandia” and this behind the scenes film is an indication of what we’re going to see in January. I do think the coolest part of this show is that above all it’s a show being made by great friends. The friendship shines through in this piece. Another key element is Jonathan Krisel – the Director and Writer. I will not be surprised to see Jonathan rise up the ranks and become even more successful than he already is. News came out late on Monday that the Portland based NBC drama “Grimm” has been picked up for a full season order with another nine episodes. The news was picked up and spread through Twitter but it looks like the original announcement came on the Entertainment Weekly Site here.
NBC Entertainment President Robert Greenblatt said
“This series is turning the traditional procedural drama on its head and is attracting a loyal following for us on Friday nights. We love where it’s going creatively and we’re excited to deliver more episodes to our audience.”
Today IFC announced a six city tour for a live “Portlandia” show. It’s a natural addition to this budding franchise. Today’s announcement mentioned that the live show will include special sneak peaks to season 2 as well as behind the scenes stories about the creation of the characters in the show. Given Fred and Carrie’s rich musical background let’s hope they throw a song or two in there as well!
