Elemental Technologies, Inc., one of Portland’s fastest growing tech companies, announced today that they have joined forces with Amazon Web Services, Inc. According to CEO, Sam Blackman, the acquisition will enable Elemental to “accelerate the development and adoption of (our) software-defined video platform”. Elemental specializes in “high-speed video encoding and transcoding software” that can “provide multiscreen content delivery to audiences on any screen or device”. Local Portland Prop Master, Tim Oakley, gets a well-deserved spread in AboutFace Magazine’s summer issue as a featured artist this month. Oakley (Oakley Design Studios) designs and creates intricate props, logos and set designs for features, TV and commercials. Most recently Oakley has created some of the iconic props for local Oregon shows such as “Grimm”, “The Librarians”, “The Green Room”, and others such as “”Dark Knight Rises”, “Start Trek” (1 and 2), “Indiana Jones” and “Jurassic World”, amongst many others. Richard Keith and Erin Cardillo created this new comedy series, set in Portland, that features a restaurant themed backdrop (which Portland plays perfectly) starring, Jonathan Silverman (“Weekend at Bernies”), Krista Allen (“The LA Complex”), Nathaniel Buzolic (“The Vampire Diaries”) and Emma Fitzpatrick (“The Social Network”). Portland filmmaker David Poulshock and his production company Red Door Films were recently awarded an astounding nine Telly Awards for TV commercials and web videos they produced on behalf of clients Spirit Mountain Casino and Goodwill Industries of the Columbia-Willamette.
“It’s a real honor,” said Poulshock, “especially for the recognition it gives the wonderful talent and stellar production crews who worked on these projects.” According to Poulshock, the overall production included six :30 spots for Spirit Mountain Casino, and five :30 spots and four 3-minute web documentaries for Goodwill. ZipRecuiter placed Eugene in the top ten list of tech job growth cities across the US this week. Joe Maruschak (RAIN – Regional Accelorator & Innovation Network) said, “it reflects that our local efforts to organize the tech community here are being noticed.” ZipRecruiter analyzed the hiring behavior in US cities and watched for the ones that had the highest growing tech jobs. Oregon Story Board announced today the the eight new companies who will be part of the second accelerator class, and the first occupants of their new space in Portland’s Old Town (Old Town Lofts at 411 NW Flanders.)
These companies represent the mix of film, video, animation, visual effects, digital media, and gaming industries that make up Oregon’s digital storytelling ecosystem. Senator Ron Wyden prepared a statement for the Congressional Record to mark the 30th anniversary of “The Goonies”, shot in Astoria, Oregon. Sen. Wyden noted the growth of the Oregon film industry and the “good-paying jobs and tourism that in turn support local businesses and economic development across the State”.
