James Westby and Katie O’Grady have taken to the streets to promote their film “Rid of Me” and I can’t sing their praises enough for the effort they’ve put forth. The film screened earlier in the year at the Tribecca film festival and received overwhelmingly positive reveiws. From that they secured a distribution deal for the film through Phase 4 films. I just came across this interesting talk from two Weiden + Kennedy employees talking about the future of creative business. I found it very interesting and worth watching. After a successful film festival run and after securing a distribution deal, the time is near for the theatrical debut of “Rid of Me” in New York City. The film debuts at Cinema Village in NYC on November 18. I spoke with Katie last week and she and James plan to be in New York prior to the debut to drum up even more support for the film. It looks like Halloween is the season for LAIKA to kick off their marketing campaign for “ParaNorman”. We found this blog post with the first poster artwork. And yesterday they set up the “ParaNorman” twitter account. We’ve also heard rumors that a trailer of “ParaNorman” might be showing in front of some films this weekend but we haven’t been able to confirm. The film doesn’t debut until August of next year but it’s great to see that LAIKA is already out there drumming up an audience for this film. Recently the media that covers the film and television industry has taken notice in all the work happening in the state. In the web based trade “The Wrap”, a recent article about the state of the TV industry mentioned Portland as a city on the rise for TV production. We were also contacted by the Hollywood Reporter a month or so ago as they decided to do a feature on the TV work in the city. Bent Image Lab, the animation studio behind many successful commercials, music videos, shorts, and visual effects projects is now co-producing long format content for television. “Jingle All the Way”, a stop motion animated show for Hallmark Channel is Bent’s first endeavor into long form animation. Airing November 25th as part of Hallmark Channel’s “Countdown to Christmas”, “Jingle All the Way” is based off of an original storybook from Hallmark. The show was directed by Bent partner Chel White, produced by Bent’s Executive Producer Tsui Ling Toomer and executively produced by Bent Partner Ray Di Carlo and Hallmark’s Jodi Schade, Diana Stuart, Chad Harris, and Shawn McClaren. But non-the-less, we like car commercials and we have many shooting here to know! They often have healthy budgets and of course, provide local jobs. We make an effort to promote the versatile roads of Oregon and in some ways it’s not that difficult; beautiful high desert, mountains, beaches, urban scenes, small towns and an easy distance between them.
