As we get closer to ParaNorman’s official August release date, LAIKA released an interesting new video today called “Making Norman.” This video gives a unique inside look into how much work goes into designing and fabricating a single stop-motion character. We know that Oregon’s film and video industry has grown over the past few years by leaps and bounds and the news today from the Portland Busniess Journal adds more proof to this fact. Next week PBJ is hosting a reception to honor their fastest growing companies in the region and Oregon City based production company Funnelbox is on the list. This is no great surprise as television commercial production accounted for over $20million of the reported $130million in spending in 2011. Thanks to the efforts of many local crew and vendors this year, a float featuring “Grimm” and the many families working in Oregon’s film industry was in this year’s Starlight Parade. Naturally the Lawson family was front and center but also included on the float was Sarah Burton, Crofton Dyack, Michael Koerner, several cast members from “Grimm” and others. With the large number of artisanal culinary talent in Oregon, it was no surprise that we were able to find an amazing local cake designer to create a masterpiece for the Grimm, Season 2 celebratory kick off press conference event. The storybook cake was made by hand from the local designer, Wrightberry’s Cakes & Cupcakes in Oregon City.
