The feature film, SOPHIE JONES, directed by Jessie Barr, is having its release on March 2nd! We shot on location in 2018 with an incredible local crew and local talent. The 44th Portland International Film Festival (PIFF 44) is proud to announce the first wave of titles and special events. Welcome To The World Of “Rival Peak” – Pipeworks’ New Cloud Game/Reality Show Now On Facebook

Pipeworks Studios (and Genvid Technologies) unveiled “Rival Peak” this week – a brand new interactive game experience that is part reality show and part game, now running on Facebook.  12 AI characters make up the contestants who are competing, “Surivoresque” style, in a beautiful Pacific Northwest landscape. The Facebook audience will be able to influence the fate of their favorite AI characters in real-time.  The show will run 24 hours a day and is hosted by Wil Wheaton (“Stand By Me”). Ashland Independent Film Festival: Varsity World Film Week

The Ashland Independent Film Festival is expanding Varsity World Film Week, its annual fall festival of new international films, into a two-week “Varsity World Film Weeks – Virtual Edition.” The festival will run online from Oct. 2 through Oct. 15 via the organization’s website: ashlandfilm.org, and is co-sponsored with Coming Attractions Theatres. Thirteen film selections can be viewed throughout the United States, while two films (The End of Love and Kuessipan) are available only to Oregon viewers.

Erica Thompson, Executive Director of AIFF, released a statement addressing the organization’s response to the recent tragic fires in Ashland and neighboring towns: “We have questioned just how relevant a film festival is in a difficult time for our community that has endured such significant loss. Oregon Scream Week – Horror Short Film Festival

October 8-10 will bring screenings of over 100 short horror, dark sci fi, dark animation and horror comedy films at the Sunshine Mill Winery and Drive-Up Theater as part of the Oregon Scream Week.

This is a live outdoor screening you can enjoy from the comfort of your own vehicle. Masks are required if you enter the Winery building and bathrooms. Tickets are only $30 per car per session. Please bring friends and family. There are yummy food and drink options that will be available to order as well.

Northwest Film Center Announces PIFF 2.0

The Northwest Film Center announces PIFF 2.0, reimagining the final days of the 43rd Portland International Film Festival.

From October 1 to 3, 2020, PIFF 2.0 will present 10 films, talks, and happy hours from Northwest and International filmmakers, offered in virtual screening and events as well as new additions to the Film Center’s popular Cinema Unbound Drive-In series.

The series includes #OregonMade feature films “The Dark Divide” and “Young Hearts.”

Northwest Film Center Brings Venice VR Expanded 2020 to Portland

The Northwest Film Center and Portland Art Museum have been announced as the exclusive U.S. partner for the Virtual Reality (VR) arm of the Venice Biennale through its Venice VR Expanded 2020 programming. This year, since many audiences will not be able to come to Venice for COVID-19 related reasons, Venice will come to them.

“The Rental” Topped Nationwide Weekend Box Office – 2nd #OregonMade Movie To Do So This Year!

Last weekend, the Bandon, #OregonMade feature film, “The Rental” – a horror-thriller directed by Dave Franco (“If Beale Street Could Talk”) – topped the nationwide box office. It is available in select theaters and available to watch on a variety of video on demand platforms that began Friday, July 24.

The film stars Alison Brie (“Mad Men,” “Glow”), and Dan Stevens (“Downton Abbey”), in this horror-thriller – a couple looking to get away for a weekend of fun and relaxation with another couple — Sheila Vand (“A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night”) and Jeremy Allen White (“Shameless”) — but when they retreat to a house seemingly ideal for their vacation…they soon realize maybe it isn’t after all.
