OMPA welcomes the Creative Conference with the 2nd annual “Oregon’s Got Talent” event at Indent Studios on Friday night, September 16th.  OMPA is a trade group for professionals in Oregon’s commercial, film, television and new media production business, and has been a supporter of the Creative Conference since its inception, as the event promotes Oregon’s broad creative industry. The Oregon Film Factory Movie Museum showing on “Animal House” opens Friday, September 2nd, 2011.

Katherine Wilson kicks off her Traveling Movie Museum on Friday from 4 to 7pm with an open house @ Jameson’s Retro Bar and Lounge, Broadway and Olive, downtown Eugene. A no-host bar is available. Jameson’s also provided the framing for over 30 images and posters from the iconic film. Many of them will be shown to the public for the first time since the filming 35 years ago. The exhibit ends Sept. 30th.

“Patrick’s Story” at Breckenridge Festival of Film

Breckenridge Festival of Film recognizes local filmmaker’s doc ‘Patrick’s Story’


Another Oregon documentary is making waves on the film-festival circuit.

Martin Vavra’s doc “Patrick’s Story” has been accepted into Colorado’s Breckenridge Festival of Film.

“Patrick’s Story” follows a gay man, Patrick, who was removed from a Portland hospital as his partner lay dying.

Oregon Cartoon Institute Launches Mel Blanc Project

We love to report good news! Oregon Cartoon Institute recently reported that they with receive support from Miller Foundation and Kinsman Foundation for the first project for which had sought funding,The Mel Blanc Project. The Project officially begins on June 8, with the first lecture: “Now Cut That Out!”: Portland Theaters Educate Mel Blanc.

Oregon Cartoon Institute is a consortium of individuals and organizations working together to raise awareness of Oregon’s rich animation and cartooning history. Five organizations created the Mel Blanc Project: Oregon Cartoon Institute, Oregon Jewish Museum, Ethos Music Center, Oregon Historical Society and PSU’s School of Fine and Performing Arts. Most of the attention of late has focused on feature films and the renewal of the production incentives. The press loves to write about the “Leverages,” the “Grimms,” the “Gones” and the “Portlandias’ because they bring recognizable star talent to Portland.  And because they have a mystique about them; they are, for all intents and purposes, “the movies,” “Hollywood.” But we don’t want to loose sight of that portion of the production world that has provided a reasonably steady stream of work for local crew and local vendors; the COMMERCIAL. After 5 Months of Filming, Eastern Oregon University’s First Feature-Length Film Now Enters the Editing Stage.

The cast and crew of EOU’s first feature-length film called it a wrap after five months of intensive and involved filming. The Glass Menagerie, a 92-minute movie based on the famous play by Tennessee Williams and adapted into a film by Professor April Curtis, is now ready for the final concentrated effort of computer technology, voice-over work and musical theme music composed by Biology Professor John Rinehart. BridgePort Brewing Presents Sound + Vision Fest at Hollywood Theatre

BridgePort Brewing Company, Oregon’s oldest craft brewery, is proud to announce this year’s “Sound and Vision Fest” taking place at the Hollywood Theatre to benefit restoration projects at the 85 year-old Portland landmark.

The festival was created to showcase new or existing collaborations between musicians and filmmakers, exploring how the moving image informs musical performance and vice versa. Each night of the festival will be curated by a different local artist and will feature a mixture of film screenings and live music from favorite local bands. Changes to FUTA Rates for Some States

The U.S. Department of Labor will require supplemental FUTA tax assessments in some states due to budget deficits.  Attached is a chart from the U.S. Department of Labor indicating projected increases beyond the base rate of 0.8%.  If an increase rate is 0.3%, then the revised FUTA tax rate will be 1.1%.  FUTA tax contributions are assessed per employee on the first $7,000 in wages.  Changes are not scheduled for Oregon or Washington, but if you are filming in other states, you may have to make adjustments to your payroll budgets.   Continue reading... “Changes to FUTA Rates for Some States”
