The Film Office has recently been working with the Producers Guild of America by adding to an on-line searchable database of green vendors for production in Oregon.   As Earth Day approaches on April 22nd, you might consider joining the “A Billion Acts Green®” by  suggesting a green vendor, to add to this database. There is no charge for these listing and the more there are, the more opportunities productions have to make green choices.

EUGENE, OREGON – April 18, 2011.  The Chinese American Benevolent Association is pleased to announce the sixth anniversary of the DisOrient Asian American Film Festival with a selection of highly provocative and unique quality films. DisOrient has grown from a grass roots film festival started in 2005 by Eugene native Jason Mak to an all-volunteer run community event that features films that support social justice themes and that break the Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander stereotypes so often portrayed in mainstream media.

Colour Box Makeup Studios founder Kerry Herta returns to the Northwest to teach aspiring makeup artists the latest techniques used in the entertainment and beauty industries.

Following successful workshops in Seattle over the last two years, Herta’s workshops – the five-day Makeup Artist Boot Camp and one-day Airbrush Seminar – come to Portland June 1-6. Jack Nicholson’s Legacy to Oregon Film

He was here in Oregon in the 60’s; in the town that Stan Brakage called “the Poetic Cinema Capitol of the World, Eugene, Oregon.” He arrived on the scene like his character in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest:” Randall Patrick McMurphy, to tell us we weren’t crazy, to legitimatize what we were trying to do with our 16mm cameras, and over the years, to help us get a break in the business.

My friend Ron Vidor, a Cinematographer who worked as a cameraman on “Five Easy Pieces” said that in 1969 Jack and the rest of the cast and crew were just traveling through on I-5, when Director Bob Rafelson saw the Eugene Denny’s Restaurant.

The Hollywood Theatre has launched a new logo, website and mission statement! We hope it better represents the new directions we are heading.

New mission statement: The Hollywood Theatre is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to entertain, inspire, educate and connect the community through the art of film while preserving a historic Portland landmark.

We also have a special Groupon deal for membership today. $25 for a year membership plus 4 tickets. The membership gets you $4 movie tickets, free parking in the Whole Foods garage and an invite to a meet and greet reception with Miranda July (she is premiering her new film The Future here on May 7.)
